Although the Communist dictatorship in Beijing has a stranglehold on controlled the COVID-19 pandemic domestically, that has meant that inbound international travel is all but impossible. They've only begun accepting visa applications again, but one of the conditions for getting one is being vaccinated. Not just any old COVID-19 vaccine, mind you, but one of the Chinese-produced ones, essentially ruling out visitors from any country that hasn't approved them for use...such as the US, Canada, the UK and most of the EU. That makes the next bit of news almost inevitable:www.lpga.com/news/2021/blue-bay-canceledNot sure how far along California is in the vaccination timeline but 19 April - Patriot's Day, appropriately enough - is the date on which every state should open up eligibility to all those over 16. We now have our first known vaccination selfie from the Tour, and to the surprise of no one it's none other than TIIIIIIIIIFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!!Kevin

I had my first shot of Pfizer today. I feel OK so far; hopefully I won't have any bad reaction... Got my first dose of Pfizer here in Singapore last Monday. Felt fine - keep hearing 2nd gets to you much more. Tried to volunteer at HSBC this year, since they aren't allowing fans, but put my application in too late. Still hard to believe many players will make the trip to just play here and in Thailand. Especially with Thailand still being pretty iffy. Here in SG, where the government has such tight control, the virus is essentially gone from the community. There are imported cases most days, but they are immediately quarantined for 2 wks.

My wife is getting her second dose on Sunday, so we'll see how it goes. She felt briefly crummy for about half a day after the first dose but otherwise fine.

No spectators in Hawaii this week. Any news on whether or not Oil Boy will allow spectators at HUGEL/Wilshire CC?

My guess is that there shouldn't be a problem attending the NJ tournaments later in October. They opened up vax eligibility to all people in the 55-64 age group on April 5, so I was able to get it after work last week at the big convention center in Edison. I was under the impression that this location was doing Pfizer, but they were doing J & J when I got there ... which was fine by me, I didn't care by this point. If I grow horns and a tail later, I'll let you know. I was later told by someone at work that some locations have more than one brand ... they might use one during the day and different one at night. Looking around that giant hall, I was surprised to see that 80-plus % of the people in line had to be under the age of 55. I guess NJ is now awash in vaccine, which is good. Eligibility will be "officially" opened to everyone starting April 19.

The clown show to the north is looking bad ... center ring is Vancouver where the entire Canucks hockey team is sidelined. I don't see the CP Open going forward ... although it would help if all the LPGAers would start getting the vax if they haven't already ... after all they're the ones getting hurt by this.

Ottawa may be providing most of the money and guidance for health care in Canada, but it's the provinces that actually run it...and most of them are run by conservative premiers, many of whom pre-pandemic had bones to pick with Justin Trudeau. The focus may be on the 3 biggest provinces (Ontario, Quebec and BC, the latter run by an NDP government) but it's Alberta, Saskatchewan and to a lesser extent Manitoba that are truly suffering. The Maritimes have had it relatively easy by contrast and have established a travel bubble among those 4 provinces, with the possibility of including the French territory of St. Pierre and Miquelon as well. Let's not forget that an overwhelming percentage of the population lives within 160km of the US border and even though it's still closed to all but essential travel it didn't stop Agent Orange's disinformation campaign from infecting the population via the media, and Jason Kenney, the conservative premier of oil-rich Alberta, fell for it hook, line and sinker.Kevin

I've been fully vaxed with Pfizer for awhile now, and had virtually no side effects with either shot. Now I'm wondering if I'm protected. I can imagine my T cells looking at the vaccine coming in to my body and saying, "Eh, why bother making antibodies...this guy's lived long enough." As a proud Boomer, I had to laugh at this...

I got Pfizer part one last week. Most of the people I work with are in their twenties -- the tech industry, dontcha know -- so they're a little jealous, but I don't think they'll have to wait much longer. Some of them have discovered that you can get a shot whenever you want if you drive out into the boondocks, since they are overstocked at those community store vaccine locations in Cowlitz county. Literally don't even have to make an appointment there. (yeah, that's really the name of the county, and it's as hicksville as it sounds!). I had no major symptoms, but I felt a tad crummy two days later for about four hours, then it went away after I had a coffee.

Excerpts:
China's top disease control official has said the efficacy of the country's Covid vaccines is low, in a rare admission of weakness.
Gao Fu, head of the Chinese Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, on Saturday said at a conference the current vaccines "don't have very high rates of protection".
Mr Gao later said his comments had been misinterpreted.
He added that his earlier admission that Chinese vaccines had a low protection rate were a "complete misunderstanding".
His original comments however, attracted some criticism on social media site Weibo, with commenters suggesting that he should "stop talking".

His next comments will be from inside the trunk of his car.

You have stumbled into the truth ... as they say in the K-Dramas, BING-GO! The problem is at the top ... in a rare instance when our former Van City correspondent was a 1000% correct, he once said the current occupant in the PM's chair did not have the intellect of his daddy. Even the foreign squish news media has stopped buying Justin's b.s.
*********
BTW, Jay Monahan of the PGA Tour struck back at the b.s. by announcing that Covid-19 testing will be discontinued for players who have reached the two-week mark following their final vax shot. The tour is not making the vaccine mandatory.
*********
Seven days have passed since my J&J shot ... yeah, I know, don't buy any green bananas.

Hey guys, I've been pretty lenient about this thread given its topic, but please let's not turn this into a political conversation. Thank you!

Lightening the mood but staying in Ottawa, MPs participating virtually in the pandemic-mandated hybrid sessions of Canada's Parliament are repeatedly reminded that they must adhere to the same level of decorum as those who actually sit in the House of Commons. This was brought into sharp relief this week not just by having a member from the governing Liberal Party accidently appearing on camera from his office in the buff but also because the image, which only appeared on the internal feed to House members and parliamentary staff, was leaked to the media.www.cbc.ca/news/politics/william-amos-liberal-mp-naked-parliament-1.5988649Kevin

A small glimmer of sanity emerges in California, believe it or not, for attending the USWO and USO:
You have to flash your vaccine card to get in, provided your final shot was at least 14 days earlier. I could tolerate that if it's required for getting into LPGA events in NJ ... heck, I'm already flashing my ShopRite card for a free grounds pass. BTW, just 47 hours to go until I am bullet-proof, per CDC guidelines ... unless the J&J joy juice KILLS me first.

I was looking through today's script for Arirang Radio's weekday morning news show "Good Morning Seoul" and one headline jumped out at me right away:
The Living Legend herself, Seoul Sister 1.0 has contracted the coronavirus this past week after coming in contact with a fellow variety show guest who was also infected. She's now in self-isolation.en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN20210424002100315Kevin
