Finally saw it last night. Thoroughly entertained. I laughed a lot but also freaked out. Mostly enjoyed the development stages of the plot, the conclusion I found a bit unsatisfying on a couple of levels. The ensemble I thought was indeed great. What really did it for me was Cho Yeo Jeong as the wealthy matriarch. Kang Ho's character on the other hand I was a little confused by. What happens at the end seemed so out of character. Are we allowed to talk about the plot yet? When the old housekeeper showed up again I almost died. Jessica was daebak of course but her cigarette smoking could've used some work. That's my only nitpick, I know it is weird but the way she handled the cigarettes didn't look natural and thus kind of took me out of the moment. Other than that really impressed by every aspect of this production. I think it translates extremely well to American sensibility and will recommend to everyone I know. Cool, glad to hear you liked it! I've seen it twice. The first time I wasn't sure about the ending, either, but the second time it made perfect sense to me and I liked it a lot more. Let's hold off on the spoilers for now, but I will say that when the housekeeper showed up, my wife kept saying 'no no no!' and giving the Kim family some advice that they did not heed , and she never talks in movies like that. It was really fun to watch her reactions, having already seen the film and knowing what was coming.

So far it's been an amazing award weekend for Parasite!
On Friday, the film was named Best Picture (and director Bong Joon Ho the Best Director) by the 150 members of the London Film Critics' Circle. Big honor, topping British hopeful 1917 among others!
Tonight, Parasite won the Best Original Screenplay award from the Writers Guild of America, the biggest precursor for what might happen at the Oscars in Best Original Screenplay. The one caveat here is that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was not in the running (I think Tarantino is not a member of the guild so can't be nominated?), and he is probably Parasite's biggest competition in this category at the Oscars, where both films are nominated. The winners were Bong and Han Jin Won.
Parasite also won the award for Best Contemporary Art Direction from the Art Directors Guild. Really deserved this one -- that amazing house was built from scratch on a film set. It's so detailed and impressive it's practically a character in its own right. The winner was Designer Lee Ha Jun.
Sunday is the BAFTAs, the British Academy Awards, and Parasite is up for more awards. This is the last major award before the Oscars I think (Oscars are next Sunday).

Parasite ended up winning two awards at the BAFTAs: Best Non English Film (it has a weird category name because the UK itself has multiiple languages, and presumably a film in Welsh could qualify) and Best Original Screenplay. It lost Director and film to 1917, but that's a British Film, so it felt like that might happen. The best moment was when Bong called Song Kang Ho 'one of the best actors of our generation' and Song stood and was applauded. [EDIT:] Sigh, they aren't letting us play it. Lupita Nyong'o really liked Parasite. And Bong Joon-ho finally gives a shoutout to his interpreter: "She's really amazing, I don't know how she can do this, most perfect translator in the world. She really destroyed the language barrier, yeah?"

Most of the hype for Parasite has surrounded Director Bong Joon Ho and starlet So Dam Park, but this week, another cast member of the film is in the spotlight. Bong was asked by W Magazine to shoot a photo series about his film. He decided to use the rich mom, Cho Yeo Jeong, as his muse. Filming around LA, he came up with a series of highly interesting photos. As Bong remarked in the magazine: “The rich mother dreams of a world that is bright & very fresh, but she’s trapped in a glass box that she’s made for herself. She’s obsessed with her son, but she never hugs him. That tension & fear was what I wanted to show in the movie, & now, even further, in these pictures.” https://www.instagram.com/p/B8IM4pYJ1KD https://www.instagram.com/p/B8ISl7qFEG7

She really destroyed the language barrier, yeah?" The interpreter's name is Sharon Choi; she is not a professional interpreter, but she sure is a natural. The below is perhaps my favorite Sharon Choi 'highlight' of the season; perhaps the only time I've seen her flummoxed all year!

Mr. Bong should wear a "Hello My Name is" tag that reads "Joon Ho". That and Asian names should just be given as first/last here in the west. Pointlessly confusing otherwise.

OK, here are my highly anticipated first and last Annual Oscar Predictions, for just the major categories that nominated Parasite.
Parasite wins Best Director, Original Screenplay, Film Editing & International Feature.
Parasite loses Best Picture and Production Design.
The Academy fossils will figure they gave Parasite Best International Film so that gives them cover to give Best Picture & Production Design to 1917. I hope I'm wrong about that.
Don't forget, these incisive picks come to you from the same guy who regularly hypes Solar Lee and RLB.

So Dam Park flies out to California for the Oscars. All the main actors will be attending an American award show for the first time (all 8 minus the rich son and daughter, including the maid's husband for the first time).
