Excluding two Monday qualifiers, a field of 142 has been set for May 29-31: www.lpga.com/tournaments/shoprite-lpga-classic-presented-by-acer/final-fieldLydia Ko, Jessica Korda, Charley Hull, SY Ryu, Danielle Kang, Katherine Kirk, Sakura Yokomine and Joanna Klatten are skipping this one. Stephanie Meadow gets her second start of the year; finished T-20 at the ANA. Paige M. will tee it up again and Brooke H. received another sponsor invite. The other sponsor invite went to Candy “Coppertone” Hannemann, who's taking a shot at Brazil’s Olympic team. Her shooting has been way off...four Symetra starts and four MCs in 2015. The presence of 2006 champ Seon Hwa Lee would enhance the scenery down there. Unfortunately, she is not in the field and is not on the alternate list (#217 on the latest priority list, two spots behind Lori Kane). She shot 72 in the first round of the Kia two months ago, but dropped out and hasn’t been seen since...four MCs in five starts this year. Is she doing a slow fadeout to Korea? I’ll be there May 27-30, will report later. In the past, I always stayed at one of the skeevy motels on Rte. 30, southwest of the Seaview. This year, I’m trying a nicer area on Rte. 9, closer to the course. Who knows, maybe I’ll be rubbing elbows with some playas...or maybe just their caddies. I don’t remember seeing any recognizable golf faces at those Rte. 30 dumps.

Coppertone.....how appropriate....lol. WTF...of all the pros...why Candy? She's part of a deep stable of Dukie's who floundered on the LPGA......luckily Lang won one for the Blue Devils.
hmmmmm.....I like Paige....but predict another missed cut.....she better get back to GC before Sara "No H" Brown or Castrale steals her job.
Phil...are you going to fanboy MHL this year?....will she recognize you from her gallery of 2 people.....lol.
Lots of great new faces to fanboy this year....and don't forget to fanboy some of the better looking Big Break pros from the pro-ams.
Does Shoprite set up a food tent? Safeway did an amazing job in Portland.....including a booze tent.
If you're going to stalk any pros.....you should check into Marriott, Hilton and their associate brands.....likely many mid range pros at these hotels collecting loyalty points.
The loops typically band together to get a discounted group rate at a nearby flea bag motel.
When the Safeway was at Pumpkin Ridge...I went down without the wife and stayed at the Econo Lodge and many loops were there....no way my wife would slum at that dump...but I don't care...as long as it's clean and has hot water for a shower. I'd eat their cheesy breakfast and met some journeymen loops and listened to their whines and stories.
When Choice Hotels was a LPGA partner....they had great promo rates. I stayed at a really nice Clarion Hotel (airport) near Columbia Edgewater....really nice room and a great hot buffet breakfast...only $65....what a deal. Too bad they are no longer a partner.

Last year I think it was, Seon Hwa Lee said she was planning on returning full time to Korea, only to score a full tour card at Q-School (it may have been the previous year, I can't recall, but in any event she was stopped from leaving the LPGA by that good fortune). It would be interesting to see her return to the KLPGA and confront her doppelganger Seon Hwa Lee 2, who is having a decent run these days over there.

mr3putt:
Shop-Rite has a huge hospitality tent off the 18th green. You need a special ticket for that; the website doesn't have a price, you have to call a phone #. I was lucky enough to score a freebie in 2006...a guy on the shuttle bus said his friend wasn't showing up and offered me his extra pass for nothing. A grounds pass each day is good enough...at no cost with my Shop-Rite card.
Points-shmoints...on TV they're always talking about a particular pro staying with a "host family", which I assume means FREE! I suppose the proper etiquette is to make your bed and help with dishes in the AM. That looks like the best deal to me. I'll bet there's a comp bidding war among the casinos to get Laura Davies.
I don't travel often enough to worry about points. I usually make my reservations online through AAA, but I used travelocity this time as they were cheaper. Wed. and Thu. nights are steals, but then they murder you for Fri. night. Nevertheless, the whole thing with all fees and taxes included average out to about $45/night.
Agreed, yet I can't recall bumping into caddie-types anywhere. I remember seeing a golf equipment van parked at the Comfort Inn I stayed at for the old Sybase in 2007.
Those are BIG "ifs" if you believe all the online horror reviews for the various dung piles on Rte. 30, but I've never had a bad experience yet...maybe just lucky. Still, I wanted to try a different area for once...there's a also a muni course not far away with a $15 weekday fee after 3 PM (gets dark at 8:15 PM) which I'll probably hit...haven't been there in at least ten years.
The pro-am tee-off sheets won't be posted online until the last minute. If 2013 is a guide, then the place to be is Galloway Nat'l on Thursday AM.

Wow - If you're trying a little nicer area at $45/night, how much are the 'skeevy motels' on Rte. 30?!

I remember seeing her (maybe her rookie year) at the State Farm Classic in Ill. We couldn't believe how athletic she looked just walking down the fairway, not to mention her beautiful swing. I am so surprised she wasn't really successful.

Granted it is a weekend and it is one of the nicest towns in California, but I have to fork out $135 to stay at a Motel 6. At least you no longer have to put quarters in to watch tv.

New Jersey is one of the best states. Lots of good deals and good looking women. That Rodeway must be plush.

mr3putt:
In all the dives I've stayed at over the last 25 years, I can't recall running into any strange characters that stick in my mind. I've always been more concerned if the place was in a somewhat seemy neighborhood...although that didn't stop me from going there...and on golf trips, I never leave my clubs in the car trunk overnight!
BTW, does a motel really have a lobby when there are no interior room entrances? What did we do before Google Maps? Do a street-level view of 208 E. Whitehorse Pike (aka Rte. 30) to see the $28 Shangri-La (pic was taken Oct. 2013). Surprisingly, there's another Rodeway Inn about 1/10 of a mile away at 200 E.W.P. Maybe one of them will be re-branded one day.
With Google Maps, continue on the eastbound side of Rte. 30 and you'll see one motel after another. At 232 E.W.P., there's a place called China Village with pagoda columns at the driveway entrance...the sign says $22.99/night...boy, I really missed out. It's now called American Star Inn & Suites.
