Marathon day at the U.S. Girls' Junior ends with Yealimi Noh winning her second straight big title www.golfdigest.com/story/marathon-day-at-the-us-girls-junior-ends-with-yealimi-noh-winning-her-second-straight-big-titleIt’s an exaggeration to say that Yealimi Noh’s toughest opponent during the U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur at Poppy Hills Golf Club was the fog. But only a mild one. Nearly 16 hours of delays during the week in Pebble Beach, Calif., led to a bumpy schedule of stops and starts. It meant that the 16-year-old from Concord, Calif., needed to play 49 holes on the final day—believed to be the most ever for a winner in a USGA championship—before finally walking away with the trophy. Despite the chaos, Noh shinned, beating Gina Kim in the semifinals, 3 and 2, and then taking down Alexa Pano in the final, 4 and 3. It was the second significant title the high school senior-to-be claimed in the past week, having won the Junior Girls’ PGA Championship nine days earlier.

With her win in Japan, Kristen Gillman moved from Rolex No. 472 to No. 174. She's qualified to enter directly into LPGA Q-School Stage II.

www.paloaltoonline.com/news/2018/07/24/palo-alto-resident-makes-field-at-us-womens-amateurPalo Alto resident Lauren Sung, a 14-year-old soon-to-be freshman, has Concord's Yealimi Noh, a UCLA commit, to thank for her entry into the U.S. Women's Amateur, to be played at the Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs beginning Aug. 6. Sung was the first alternate in the qualifying tournament at the Sequoyah CC in Oakland in early July, finishing in a three-way tie for the final automatic bid but lost out. Noh won that tournament. Noh also won the recently concluded U.S. Girls Junior in Pebble Beach, giving her an exemption into the USGA Amateur Championship and opening the way for Sung.

The magic carpet ride continues for at least two more weeks for Yealimi Noh, until US Women's Amateur.
She added another jewel to her crowded crown by winning Canadian Women's Amateur by one stroke over Dylan Kim of Texas; that's her third consecutive titles after Girls Junior PGA and US Girls' Junior.

The other day I was chuckling at the notion of already being completely tired of certain junior golfers. Eun Jeong Seong, Alison Lee and Leona Maguire; so many great juniors face difficulties as professionals. Lydia Ko, Ariya Jutanugarn, Lexi and Hye Jin Choi, on the other hand, were top juniors and remain as top professionals. Too early to know whether Lucy Li or Yealimi Noh will amount to anything special but they're fun to follow and watch.
