Great round by So Yeon today, really hope she keeps it going tomorrow. Sung Hyun is still there as well. Brook Henderson Will also be in the final group.
Looks like In Kyung has secured her spot on the IL team. Hyo Joo and Jin Young climbed into the top ten.

Round 3 All in all this was one of the best days the Koreans have had all year. So Yeon has rarely looked stronger than she did today. Tee to green, she was just striping the ball, hitting some great approaches for good birdie chances. Then, after making a spectacular up and down from the bunker on 11 for birdie, she turned her game up a notch, and treated us to one of the best stretches of golf I can remember from her. The approach on 18 was all-world, just fantastic, but she hit a very impressive tee shot on 17 though she didn't make birdie there, and a great par save on the tough 16th. A three shot lead is no guarantee of anything, but I hope So Yeon goes out there tomorrow with her full confidence and plays her heart out and grabs that win. GO SO YEON!!!!!! Meanwhile, Sung Hyun is lurking, and is in a perfect position to make one of her patented runs. Don't count her out. Jin Young Ko made a good bid to get into the International Crown team with a 68, but Inky held her off with a 69 to move to 4 under and a shot above Ko. Inky still has an outside chance of winning this, but a top five is definitely a strong possibility. Also at 6 under is the resurgent Hyo Joo Kim, fresh off her improbable comeback at the US Women's Open. Amy Yang and Sei Young also in 10th place with possible top tens on the line. Good luck to the Sisters tomorrow, especially So Yeon Ryu. Hwaiting!!

I have often seen golfers, after they finish their round. Stop and shake hands with every volunteer standing there. Even on occasion giving them signed balls. Jane Park met this one volunteer and made an assumption. That's probably not the case.

Uh oh, Lexi is bulldozing the golf course...expect wall-to-wall Lexi when the TV coverage begins. Okay, I won't watch the scoreboard anymore...and wait for the 3 pm tape delay. If you don't want to get spoiled, don't watch any other tournament or Golf Channel.

Final group on the clock. It's not So Yeon's fault.

So Yeon made one crucial mistake, and it cost her the tournament. Still a great tournament for her. She is playing great right now, so she will have other chances to win.

I put off taking a shower until I saw through until the end of this. I thought I had a big enough window when they blew the horn to warn of approaching thunderstorms. When I got back to the TV, they were awarding the trophy to Sung Hyun Park. I missed the winning putt! But at least I saw that amazing par save she had at 16 during regulation.

I expected the delay to last a lot longer. The TV people gave no indication they'd be back so soon.

Round 4 Man, what an emotional roller coaster. Did you know that So Yeon shot in the 60s in EVERY ROUND she played in June? Every round the entire month. But today was July 1st, and alas, her scoring streak did not continue. Congrats to Sung Hyun Park. That par save on 16 is going to become legendary no doubt. Guess she's over her slump now, huh? Park earned it, and So Yeon struggled, but boy, was I rooting for Ryu (sorry, SHP, you're cool, but Ryu is one of my biggest favorites). I love that she never gave up. I've seen her play hyper-defensively in the past, but this time, she stayed positive and kept fighting. After that terrible putting debacle on 2 for a double, she might have in the past folded like an origami swan. But instead, she immediately started hitting quality shots, making two birdies a few holes later to reassert herself. But the great moment was when she dumped that CLUTCH birdie on top of Park on 16 right after Park hit that impossible shot from the weeds. Then of course came the shot into the water on 17. ARGH! Interesting that in both Major wins Park has had, she was behind late only to have the leader hit a shot into the water on a par 3 to allow her to get back into it. Hye Jin did the same thing last year at the US Open. Imagine: two better iron shots from Choi and Ryu and Park might still be looking for her FIRST Major... When they got into the playoff, I was hopeful for So Yeon: she had won her two previous Majors in playoffs. But I was also worried that the Koreans would lose a third straight Major in a playoff. Thankfully that didn't happen, thanks to more clutch putting from So Yeon and Sung Hyun on the first playoff hole. I wonder if things might have been different had the horn blown before Ryu hit her approach on 16? We'll never know, but she still hit a fantastic birdie try that JUST missed going in. Park made the birdie, and that was that. I feel SO sad for So Yeon, but more proud. She fought hard, she battled through adversity, and though it didn't happen for her, she should realize just how amazing she is and carry that forward the rest of the year. I'm hoping to see many more great tournaments from her from here on out. Congrats also to Inky. Jin Young Ko made a great run to get to 6 under, but faded, and in the end IK got the third Korean top ten, which SHOULD earn her the International Crown berth. Ko and Amy managed ties for 11th, while Hyo Joo finished tied for 15th. Annie Park had a top 20, too. Congratulations again to Sung Hyun Park, great job So Yeon and Inky. Sisters Hwaiting!!!

Good point about the missed shots. Park hits her approach one foot to the right and it's game over. So Yeon hits her tee shot a couple feet to the left and she wins. That's the way it is sometimes in golf.
They showed about ten minutes of So Yeon's news conference on Golf Central last night. One point she made is that she felt this was the best round of golf she ever played in the final round of a Major. That might seem strange given the mistakes she made, but I think she's right. What was great about it was that she never gave up, and even with mistakes and bad breaks, she fought and still did great stuff to the end. She was only the second player ALL DAY to make birdie on 18. That should have won her the tournament, but moments later Park became the third player all day to birdie that hole. Whatcha gonna do?

One complaint about the weird final day coverage. They chose to start the coverage on the 15th hole, which tipped off right away that there was going to be a playoff (although I still wasn't sure So Yeon would be in that playoff). Then there was a rain delay, and they SHOWED THE SAME THREE HOLES they had just shown. They must have been covering the tournament earlier anticipating they would start the tape delay around hole 9, why not show us the coverage they didn't show before?
Then, the playoff ends about an hour early, and they spend like half an hour TALKING. Why not show some of the lost coverage at that point? I would have rather watched the golf, thank you vey much.

She said that? To my untrained eye, she is playing better than ever lately. There is a subtle but distinctly more confident look about her. I hope she keeps her foot on the pedal. Park is a generational talent, no shame in losing to her A-game.
