Jennifer Song with a very nice -6 round. What's gotten into her lately? Her answer to that...I was off-camera when it started www.lpga.com/videos/jennifer-song-posts-65-in-round-1-at-the-2017-shoprite-lpga-classicShe didn't mention the insect sting or bite on the inside of her right wrist...don't know when it happened, but I watched her rub her wrist against a chunk of ice in the water bottle barrel at the 9th tee. After playing the 10th hole, a couple of phsyio people drove up, applied a drop of white cream and gave her an ice bag. I followed J. Song's last twelve holes...aside from being an overlooked cutie, she made some great par saves. She may have also had the outfit of the day:

Round 1 I love seeing Jen Song in the mix! Can she keep it up and actually contend? Saturday will be the challenging day for her. I agree that she looked tres sharp in that outfit. Jeong Eun Lee is continuing her strong play, and Jenny Shin is also at 6 under. But the name that I'm most excited about on the leaderboard is INKY!! Hoping we can see her in the mix come Sunday. She keeps on searching for her heart of golf! Good start by Inbee; she had some nice putts on the broadcast. But can someone explain the infatuation Golf Channel has with Mariah Stackhouse? Once again she got tons of coverage despite underperforming. Does she have Michelle Wie's agent? On the downside, frustrating that So Yeon chose the last two events to play her worst golf in the past nine months. Just when she was on the cusp of grabbing #1! Ah well, as it has been said, the real test will be in the Majors. She just needs to put her head down and make this cut! And what on Earth is going on with Sei Young Kim? Please don't leave our tour and return to Korea! It will get better soon! Sisters Hwaiting!

If Golf Channel didn't have broadcast rights for the NCAA Championships, I guarantee we wouldn't be seeing Mariah Stackhouse on LPGA broadcasts.

Well So Yeon finished one of her worst tournaments ever.
She just have to put it in the back of her mind and move on.
I am sure she will, she is a resourceful young lady.
I still am upset about the golf channel disrespecting her by pairing her with plus hundred ranked players.
There weren't anything random about it.
They knew exactly what they were doing.
I guess now she really knows what they think about her.
Despite the phony interviews.

Stackhouse was on the NCAA commercials on golf channel for a year straight. They made her famous. Of course GC refuses to believe they could ever do the same thing with So Yeon or In Gee.

Despite the phony interviews. I don't know why the pairing happened, but it was definitely not a very respectful thing to do to the top ranked player in the field. Well, So Yeon's long run without a missed cut is coming to an end. And she is not going to reach #1 before Jutanugarn. So, will she ever be the top player? I think that there are two stages involved. The first is actually getting to be #1. But the second is truly establishing yourself as the top gun. Even if Ryu had made it to the top this week, I think she was still a long way from achieving the 'true #1' (to borrow a phrase from someone... ). The fact that she mentioned in her press conference how she was talking to psychologists trying to get reassurance that she could be #1 shows me that even SHE doesn't believe she is there yet. I believe she can get there, but it's definitely a process, especially for a player who seems to have more self doubt than the average superstar in this sport. I think back to when Inbee became #1 for the first time. She grabbed the top spot during an off week, and Stacy Lewis, who lost the #1, was less than gracious about it. Inbee had won more recent events when she ascended to the top than So Yeon has right now, but even so, she was not WINbee. It wasn't until she went on that incredible run in June, 2013, that she really arrived as the top gun. That's when Winbee was born, and she became the true #1. That's when you could see her break apart even her top rivals when they were paired with her (recall that both Lewis and Pettersen were paired with Inbee during the first two rounds of that 2013 US Open, and she flat out destroyed them with her flat stick. She did the same thing to Lewis and Ko at the HSBC the first year she won that, when she was paired with them in the final round. And again, when she thoroughly humbled Ko at the Olympics despite having not played most of the year). So Yeon has yet to have a multi-win season on the LPGA tour. By the time Winbee became the "true #1", she had something like five wins in the previous year, including two Majors. Put simply, So Yeon needs to dial into a winning vibe like that. One win in the past two years, even a Major, is not a #1 player's record. If she gets to the point where she can start collecting more wins while keeping up her 12 - 16 top tens/year rate, then she can be the top star in the game. I'm eagerly looking forward to her continuing to fight to get there. So Yeon Hwaiting!!!!

I was thinking pretty close to the same thing about So Yeon. That's why I was hoping that getting to be number one, would not be her main focus. I remember when she won the Cactus tour event here, that she would be a great golfer. I found a way to follow her progress on the KLPGA tour. Even though she lost to JY Shin after leading in that Major, I still believed in her. After her rookie season, I expected her to have more wins than she has. I am sure she will refocus and move on. Maybe the wins will come and maybe not. It still won't change the fact that she is a great golfer.

There was no place for I.K. Kim to run or hide. She took her beat down like a mule in a hailstorm.

Ariya 51 becoming RR #1 when she's not playing and during a season in which she hasn't won really goes to show just how poorly Lydia has played this year.

Would happyfan be so supportive of So Yeon's ascent to the top if the #1 player that she is aiming to topple is In Gee not Lydia?

I would think that So Yeon has earned the right to be paired with better players. You mean Concolino and Kirk are not "better" players? Now I have a quiz for you. Here are the last five players teeing off at the 10th tee of the Seaview Bay Course for the Wed. & Thu. pro-ams: Wed.Harigae 1:40 Stoelting 1:50 Suwannapura 2:00 Clanton 2:10 Coleman 2:20 Thu.Perry 1:40 Law 1:50 Shon 2:00 Chung 2:10 Ryu 2:20 Question: Which one doesn't belong? You're only allowed one guess! Yup, the #3 player in the world was sent out with the driftwood at the end of the day. As a veteran observer of the Shop-Rite pro-ams, this is unbelievable. I think Tina has friends at LPGA HQ...she'll never forgive Ryu for that "True Number One" crack from two years ago.
LMAO Candidate for post of the year. LUV this continuous YANK RACISM of the top Korean pros...Whan's a genius.

Despite the phony interviews. Another example of USELESS Korean agents...remember when NYC had the same treatment of playing with wash outs when she was ranked in the RR top 10. Korean guys are AFRAID of the WHITE MAN. I can assure that if the same thing happened to Lexi, Brooke, Wie, Creamer, etc....Bobby K or the white guy IMG agents would break down Whan's office door and pull all this BULLS*IT to rest.
