Seung Ji Han is a KLPGA player who has struggled to get a foothold on the Korean tour. This year she was mostly on the Dream Tour and didn't do that well there, either. Maybe she will do better in Japan if she can make it through Q-School. Good start!

I know we have some Japanese golf experts here. We all know Japan is golf crazed and it's really expensive to play golf there.
So why has there not been more Japanese golf stars....both men and women at the top of the world golf tours...few and far between? Is it because they'd culturally would rather have the younger generation aspire to a REAL career vs. playing golf to pay the bills?
On another note....there are a lot of Asian immigrants in North America....but relatively few Japanese? So why do the Japanese not emigrate in higher numbers?
It's kinda rare for me to play with another Japanese golfer.

Regarding the immigrant question, my guess is that Japan has a big head start over China and Korea in acquiring wealth and freedom, so there is less incentive to emigrate. As to why the Japanese men haven't been world-beaters (until Hideki), this excerpt from a 1998 SI article on Jumbo Ozaki might be instructive: Why is he a lesser golfer when he leaves Japan? His detractors say it's because he can't stretch the rules outside Asia. Others point out that Ozaki has never made a concerted assault on the majors. A more intriguing theory--and one that mirrors a common complaint of many Japanese women about their husbands--is offered by Ayako Okamoto, the Japanese pro who won 17 tournaments on the LPGA tour. Ozaki and the other men can't win abroad, she says, because they are victims of the "doting mother syndrome" prevalent in Japan. That is, they are so spoiled they can't function on their own. Or as she puts it, "They can't make it without their Cup Noodles." Ozaki has his own nonexplanation: "When I get in that atmosphere, I don't get the urge to win as strongly." www.si.com/vault/1998/04/06/241182/a-giant-in-japan-in-his-homeland-jumbo-ozaki-is-the-undisputed-king-of-golf-so-why-cant-he-get-respect-anywhere-else

On another note....there are a lot of Asian immigrants in North America....but relatively few Japanese? So why do the Japanese not emigrate in higher numbers? It's kinda rare for me to play with another Japanese golfer. Immigration is driven by two primary forces: war and economics. Japan has been at peace for 70 years. Their economy has been humming along quite nicely for decades. On top of that they have a low birth rate, and if I'm not mistaken, fairly rigid standards for immigration, so the job market is quite good. In addition, their companies seem to have more of a long term outlook than the U.S., so they don't have the massive layoffs when things get tight. 'Seems to be more loyalty to the company. In a nutshell, there are simply fewer reasons to have to seek education and employment overseas.

Many Japanese immigrants came during the late 19th/early 20th Century when laws excluding Chinese immigration were passed. They took over building the railroads and got into farming. Historical OverviewGrowing up in a lily-white neighborhood during the 1960's, a couple of kids of Japanese ancestry provided the only color in my school.

Sharon better stop fooling around and get in a good score on Friday to be safe...I don't know if they have a playoff for players tied at the 40th position. Arimura, Moromizato, and Morita have 29 career wins between them, but still have to go through this meat grinder. An article posted earlier this week says Hiromi Mogi (6 career wins) finished 51st on the money list and chose to quit the tour, rather than enter q-school. She had family considerations...child is entering kindergarten.

Japanese media seem to pay a lot of attention to Chae Young Yoon.

Chae Young Yoon nearly won the event she was invited to play on the Japanese tour earlier this year. I think the Japanese media glommed onto her at that time, because I've noticed several articles about her in Japanese magazines online since then. And she usually gets mentioned when they are profiling Korean golfers.

I also notice that Seung Ji Han came down to Earth in round 3. I hope she rallies or it's back to the Dream Tour for her in 2017.

That means small head and tall body; that her body length is 8 times the length of her head.
