Inbee and Lydia (among others) have had eyelid surgery.
What's the motivation?
Is it to make themselves more marketable to sponsors? Is it to make themselves feel better about themselves? Is it to make themselves prettier? Is it pressure from outside forces?
The bottom line is that it is not necessitated by health reasons. It is purely cosmetic. Whether we like it or not, looks do matter. It's why we shave in the morning and make sure our socks match.

Winbee is arrogant enough that if any sponsors told her to go through a Michael Jackson transformation a la Sharon and to stop eating at KFC/McDonald's...she'd tell them all to blow smoke up their butts. #ACTLIKEABOSS

That really is low, sadly it's not surprising. No wonder they go play in Japan..

While I agree with the sentiment of the article I'm not sure on the delivery. Inbee is in the HOF, she doesn't need a ballot. Research? Saying Inbee never got a decent sponsor for 5 years on the LPGA because of her looks is stretching it a bit. Inbee never played the KLPGA (so no local exposure), she had more missed cuts than Top 10's in her first 3 years on tour, started to warm to the task for the next couple of years before really heating up in 2012. It's not hugely surprising no-one was pushing contracts under her nose, though were she a Sharon there would have been contracts flowing after the USWO win so there is some reality in the comment..

Saying Inbee never got a decent sponsor for 5 years on the LPGA because of her looks is stretching it a bit. Stretching? I'll go out on a limb and say it was completely inaccurate. This is the specific sentence in the article: She only signed a major sponsorship deal with a Korean company (KB Financial) in 2013, fully five years after debuting in the LPGA. I couldn't buy that and did a little digging through Getty Images for IBP pix covering 2007 thru 2011. When she won the USWO on 6/29/2008, she wore a generic LPGA cap and a shirt from Birdy & Grace. Less than two months later at the Canadian Open, she wore an SK cap and an SK Telecom shirt. SK Group is a Korean conglomerate that had about $99 billion in revenues for 2011 (per Wikipedia). I don't know what SK Group paid her, but that was certainly fast action on their part.

Conpletely agree - She also had a clothing sponsor in Fila and was using Srixon Golf clubs.
As for Sun-ju Ahn, yeah she picked up more endoresements in Japan but again i recall her having contracts with Hi-mart and Wolsey on the KLPGA.

Yeah, I felt it was pretty likely that she had had a primary sponsor at some point. When I first read it, I thought what he meant to say was that Inbee was without a sponsor five years after joining the tour, but not necessarily that she had been without one that entire time. But re-reading it, I think he was just in error.
I thought it was interesting that the Japanese fans and corporations embraced Sun Ju Ahn and did not make a big deal about her looks. I recall her being quite popular in Japan, possibly the biggest Korean star there pre-Bo Mee. But there have been other very popular players on the Korean tour who were not movie star pretty, like Jiyai Shin. And she never had trouble finding Korean sponsorship deals, either.
(not that I doubt that someone made the plastic surgery comment to her. Just that, that guy was probably not able to speak for all Korean sponsors).

Inbee and Lydia (among others) have had eyelid surgery. I'm not convinced either of them have had work done.. Look at the before and after. Before: no crease in eyelid. After: Crease in eyelid And for reference, a photo from a Korean plastic surgery clinic.

I don't believe it enabled them to get more sponsors. It's no different from wearing makeup, how they dress "ect. He seemed to go to a lot of trouble to make a point that means absolutely nothing.

Oh, so that's why so many of us wear glasses! I didn't realize it was because we have to see out of tiny slits. I thought it was because we spent so much time studying math! Thank you for enlightening me.
