Round 1 Well, it's hard to complain about the leaderboard after round 1! great day for several of the Korean stars. Really, only In Gee didn't get herself into a good position, and she's still not that far back. I wasn't expecting IK to get out to such a great start! She quickly zoomed to 7 under, and though she cooled down on the last few holes, she only missed those putts by the slightest of margins. It would be incredible to see her win one this season, especially after the injury struggles and whatnot. Long way to go, though! So Yeon started slow, but gathered momentum like a freight train until she claimed the lead on the final hole. Jiyai also looked sharp, and though they didn't show her, Jin Young is right in it at 4 under. Minjee also did well. Reason #1 I like these events when done by the Aussie crew: they had four interviews, and EVERY ONE of them was with a Sister who was in or near the lead. Jiyai Shin! When was the last time we heard from her? Golf Channel would never do that. Reason #2. One of the Sisters hit her shot, then they showed Brooke Henderson kneeling down to prepare to putt -- and CUT AWAY from her to show someone in the lead! On Golf Channel, no way we would have cut away from her, no matter how irrelevant the shot was. Sisters Hwaiting!!!

Great start for So Yeon and many others. In Kyung Kim could have easily been ten under par. But after getting to minus seven she just wasn't able to make short putts.

Hyun Ju Yoo back to her comfort zone after the good first round.
Go Princess Mary Superal, I am hoping that you can make it.
At least Natsuka Hori made the cut. You never know, she may get hot.

The Stage Two q-school cut was pretty generous, top 44-50 from each group advancing to Stage Three (Nov. 20-22)...and Stage Four is Nov. 27-30...in Japan NOT everyone gets a card!

Three round events are like 100 yard dash; no mistake allowed. Nasa Hataoka is from Japan and she knows how to sprint.
Nasa, one bogey and nine birdies in 23 holes, is tied for the lead with Jiyai Shin at -8.

No, wait...forget Kana and Chung, it's Sakura Koiwai coming to the Seaview in 2019...
....uh no, that's wishful thinking.
I think Minjee is in slam-the-lid mode this week. It's not crazy to think that she could climb to RR #2 by next April...she plays a lot and racks up a lot of top-10s (only Ariya 51 has more this year).

Minjee is continuing on her torrid pace. She's had a great season from start to finish. Surely my praise can't curse her winning this thing.
OK, so I've become a fan of Sakura Koiwai. Isn't Koiwai an unusual surname?
So who are Seoul Sisters Jae Eun Chung and Hee Kyung Bae? What have their results been so far this year?

I don't think either of them has won this season, but they are both decent players who make a nice living over there. (a JLPGA expert can correct me, but I think both of them have won on the JLPGA in the past, just not lately).

Round 2 Minjee has been incredible this year, yet still only has one win. Apparently she has nine top fives in 2018! She could still choke this one away, but I have a feeling she's going to get her long deserved win tomorrow. Boy, it was painful to watch So Yeon hack her way around the course today. I think she is mega tired and ready for the off-season. The par 5 17th was interesting. A terrible shot into a bunker, an awful out, then she putted it thirty feet past the hole, only to save par anyway. Yet she's still close to a top ten; she can get it if she recovers and plays like on Friday. IK was marginally better, but at five shots back, she has a tough challenge ahead of her Sunday. I would love to see her get a win before the year is out; this might still be her best chance. Jiyai seemed solid, although she made a few silly mistakes on the final few holes. Not much from Jin Young Ko or In Gee, alas. I'm not expecting much from Jae Eun Chung or Hee Kyung Bae or Ji Hee Lee, but we'll see if at least one of them can make a move. Sisters hwaiting!!!
