Best shot of the year for the Koreans: Park's chip in here to win, or Eun Hee Ji's hole-in-one at the Kia? The ace was more impressive, but the chip-in more necessary.
What do you all think?
SH P: chip-in birdie and 1 shot victory EH J: hole-in-one and 2 shot victory
Seems as though they were equally necessary.
Since Eun Hee's shot happened at 14, it's not as dramatic as Terminator's shot on the 18th.
If we're talking about drama, then Lydia's 3-wood at Merced and Michelle's putt from off the green in Singapore are right up there with Terminator.
Well, I did say best shot 'for the Koreans', so I think we need to exclude Lydia (and definitely Wie) from that discussion!
For a change, the Koreans got the lucky breaks, and none more so than Sung Hyun, who had two chip-ins in her final round. And she needed both of them, because she won by just a single shot.
She also was lucky to be in the wave she was in. In Gee's wave only managed to get one person into the top ten. In Gee missed out, but she was close, and I think had she been in Sung Hyun's wave, she probably would have had a top ten. So a decent comeback tournament for her.
Interestingly, the last four Rookies of the Year (and the current ROY leader) were all in the top 12 on the leaderboard: '14 Lydia, '15 Sei Young Kim, '16 In Gee Chun, '17 Sung Hyun Park, and Jin Young Ko. They even talked about the strong rookies on the broadcast, which was cool.
Congrats to Namdalla, and nice week for the other top Sisters. Hwaiting!
In any 36 hole events; luck is the most important factor.
In Gee's main problem this year has been too many bogeys. She made only one bogey this week when she was unlucky to have a terrible lie at a fairway bunker.
It's encouraging; she's cleaned up her games if nothing else.
I could say the same thing about So Yeon this year, too many bogeys. Mainly because her greens in regulation, has really dropped. Driving accuracy and putting is fine.
If it gets her wins, she can go full Kojak for all I care. I just want to see her get trophies!
Not going to happen this week, but it was a pretty decent two rounds and I'd say she has about a 50-50 chance to notch a top ten. I'll take it! Let's hope she can build on it!
In Gee Chun Hwaiting!
