Chloe Kim's a nice story and all but rarely do you see this intense of an anointing of a young athlete. I heard Tirico comparing her to a fresh-on-the-scene Tiger Woods.
I know I am ultra cynical but women's half pipe is an ultra-niche sport. I suppose I can understand why they push these Winter Olympians so hard though. They only get one chance every four years to make an impression on the public. Lindsey Vonn and Shaun White are getting old and USA needed a new face of Winter Olympics.

I had the TV on last night and was kinda half-watching the halfpipe. I'd never watched snowboarding before, but I was unimpressed with the speed and the height of the jumps. Then Chloe comes along and goes flying down the hill with tremendous speed into the halfpipe and flies and spins in the air so much higher and faster than her world-class competitors. It was really impressive. She was obviously head and shoulders above the others. I could be wrong, but in the first first run I don't think anyone other Chloe scored above 79 and she scored 93! I get the Tiger comparison. Imagine a non-golf fan watching golf for the first time during the 1997 Masters and seeing Tiger lap the field with a 12-shot victory. I'd definitely tune in to watch Chloe again.

Again, I don't know anything about snowboarding, but is the scoring scale for men and women different?
I'm watching the men's halfpipe right now and the first few guys are going faster, higher, and spinning more than Chloe but they're only scoring in the 80s.

I like Chloe's story, I am from So-Cal too and I've been to Mountain High, where she got started. It is a dump! Very humble beginnings. I'm just not impressed with the sport I guess. I can see though that she will do a lot for it and inspire a whole generation of kids. Adults too probably.

I watched the downhill portion of the slalom/downhill combined competition...a total waste of time. The course is not particularly interesting and it only takes about 1 min. 20 secs. to complete...will they make it longer and more difficult for the downhill competition? Now for some REAL skiing...remember the racer in the all yellow suit with red helmet? Most of you could probably guess who that is by that description alone...that's how unforgettable he was: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fyIHXouWUoYes...I think both the downhill and slalom courses might be shortened in the combined event. There is only one REAL downhill...Kitzbuhel. Do you remember when Brian Stemmle was ripped in half from the crotch and up...and in 1989 Todd Brooker's crash in 1987...both were really really scary. In the 90's, I've seen Stemmle casual skiing and Todd Brooker in the bar in Whistler. We've had Liisa Savijarvi, Karen Percy, Karen Stemmle run some 1 day ski camps for our customers that I've hosted....these gals are so amazing they could instruct while skiing backwards looking up the hill at the group.....and I've also met Laurie Graham at a Whistler Ronald McDonald charity ski event. These women's thighs were huge while competing but once they stopped....all that muscle mass was gone. Back in the old days...the downhill courses weren't as groomed...you could see the skis chattering like crazy.

Watching NBCSN now and they just had the hideous luge crash of Emily Sweeney...fortunately, she was up and walking afterward, but they sent her to the hospital anyway. They didn't show a replay, but it's on Youtube: A fatal accident happened before the opening ceremonies in 2010...when a male competitor died in Whistler...the youtube is difficult to watch...RIP.

I think Chloe had 23,000 IG followers before her gold medal performance.....now she's at 515,000+ and counting...that's nuts. Jenny Money won silver 18 months ago and has less that 3,000 IG followers....lol.

There were so MANY FAILED attempts by the women in half pipe and slopestyle...yet few fails with the men. When both men and women compete using a same venue and conditions (eg tennis, hockey, etc)...one can really see how SUPERIOR the skill level of the men. The women would be shamed in skill .....if they played side by side with the men on the same course from the same tees. I laugh at people like Stacy Lewis who think the women should be playing for the same money as the guys....Stacy is such an IDIOT. People want to see the best...so it's quite hilarious when people only fanboy women's golf and don't want to watch the best golfers play...the guys....REAL golf. REAL golf fans want to watch both the men and women's tour...nuff said.

larrybrownsports.com/olympics/speedskater-kim-boutin-threatened-medal/427977************************************************************************************************* HEADLINE: MORE KOREAN CHEATING AND DEATH THREATS FROM THE KOREANS....hmmmm...was Larry right? And if this isn't proof that it was a KOREAN who purposefully held off one day to email the LPGA office so SYR could STEAL the ANA trophy from Cheatin Lexi...I don'y know what will.

I guess Shaun washed away any choking Korean blood he might had (2014 Sochi) and laid it down to win his 3rd gold medal..what a CLUTCH 3rd rin. I can guarantee that Carrot Top and the BLONDE (LMAO) FAKE Korean will be doing a commercial/advertisement on top of their joint Wheaties box selfie.
So does this mean that Eldrick will make the cut at Riviera this week?

Don't talk to me about anthems...the TOOLS up here are making our anthem gender neutral. I'm going to go buy a Chinese passport in Chinatown tomorrow.

Yeah, but he dragged the flag on the ground, which is actually against the flag code, unlike not standing for the anthem. Don't talk to me about anthems...the TOOLS up here are making our anthem gender neutral. Since you mentioned anthems (and for us non-Canadians, it is the English version of "O Canada" you're referring to; the older French version is not affected) I just realized that "The Star Spangled Banner" is almost entirely gender neutral in that it doesn't mention gender at all until the fourth stanza. Only the first stanza of Francis Scott Key's poem "Defence of Fort M'Henry", written on 14 September 1814 after he witnessed the British navy's shelling of Fort McHenry in Baltimore during the War of 1812, is commonly performed as our national anthem, set to the music of "To Anacreon in Heaven".Kevin
