Again, I don't know anything about snowboarding, but is the scoring scale for men and women different? I'm watching the men's halfpipe right now and the first few guys are going faster, higher, and spinning more than Chloe but they're only scoring in the 80s. I think it's all relative. They don't want to give out really high scores early because if someone comes along later and really lays one down, they have nowhere to go. It's kind of like when figure skating maxed out at 6.0. If you gave an early competitor a 6.0, you wouldn't be able to give a later, better competitor a better score. Having said that, they do probably reserve 100 for a pretty much perfect run. As for Chloe, I think she is one of those rare athletes that seems to be the complete package. She's attractive, has a great back story, has charisma to burn, is endearingly goofy, and is so marvelously talented that even someone who doesn't know the sport can see the quality there. The thing I find most fascinating is how the media glommed onto her despite the fact she isn't the typical blonde winter Olympian. She was too compelling to ignore. Kim apparently gained 200,000 twitter followers from the start to the end of her competition yesterday. Below: Kim finally got her breakfast sandwich live on the Today show.

"Scoring is based on how athletes stack up against each other on that particular day, rather than being based on a strict mathematical formula or even past history." So while the men were doing 1260s and 1440s compared to Chloe's 1080s, they scored lower than her because all the other men were doing 1260s and 1440s.

So why do you like Minjee?....I don't know if I'd rather talk to the busboy or Minjee at a cocktail party.

So typical of the YANK racism....NBC didn't show the FAKE Korean team vs. the Japanese....in women's hockey last night...yet the Canucks showed it on TSN & CBC.
Obviously it wasn't great hockey...but entertaining enough....lots of pushing and shoving especially after the whistle blew in front of the net...these teams don't like each other. No surprise that a white hair FAKE Korean (Rice King father) Griffin scored Korea's 1st goal....I think she's fairly old.
Shin was doing a pretty good job being bombarded with shots.
A lot of Japanese fans in the stadium. A gal in white knee highs was singing and performing.

Before Triple Axel Queen Mirai Nagasu was a bronze medalist, she worked for a year as an 'ice girl' for the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL.
What is an ice girl? Apparently it's a woman whose job at hockey games is to pick up stuff thrown onto the ice, clean the ice, and sometimes interact with the fans like a cheerleader.
Keep in mind that by that time, she had already won the US National Championship and finished fourth at the Vancouver Olympics. I suspect she won't have to be doing that job anytime again! As one wag said, "she used to clean the ice; now she owns it!"

Korean skeleton racer Yun Sung Bin won the gold medal yesterday amid a craaaaazy crowd of rabid Korean fans. 'Iron Man' (so named because his helmet is made to look like the Avenger's) came in as the world cup leader and lived up to the hype. Really fun to watch. This is Korea's first ever medal in the Winter Olympics that did not involve skates (!).
(for those who don't know, skeleton is like luge, only the riders go FACE FIRST).

Yu Na Kim, Korean Figure Skating legend, did a series of commercials for the Olympics where she tried out some of the other sports, including skeleton with the future gold medalist Iron Man. Check out a collection of the spots!

I'm currently watching the Yanks and against the Russians in Men's Hockey. Ilya Kovalchuk just scored with a couple seconds left in the 2nd period to give Russia a 3-0 lead. Notice that I said "Russia"...I will not call them "OAR", which is bulls***. I will not buy into the IOC arrogance. Yes, if an athlete is "dirty", throw them out of the games, but don't embarrass the clean ones by calling them OAR. Kovalchuk has to wear a beer league sweater in 2018...look at the beauty he had in 2014.

Did anyone see the Nigerian woman doing skeleton? They said she had four months of experience...I was ready to avert my eyes from seeing her get killed during her last run. I usually consider short track skating a joke...but Min Jeong Choi was crazy good...during the start of the mad rush at the end, she took the long way outside of the competition and still blew everyone off the track...not even close for the gold.

Bite your tongue, Short track skating is the ideal Olympic race! And watching the Koreans go nuts cheering for their favorites makes it even more incredible! Min Jeong Choi made it into the finals of the 500 m race, where she was touched out by Italian Silvia Fontana for the gold. Still, she should have had silver -- until the refs made a controversial call and decided that she had impeded one of her opponents. Choi was DQed. Well, that's the way it goes in Short Track. Below: the Canadian skater seems to be doing the pushing, but it was Choi who got the DQ. Needless to say, Choi had something to prove in the 1500, and boy, did she. Her win was incredible. With just a few laps to go, she turned on the afterburners, and went from near the back, to the lead, to blowing everyone off the track in the space of about 20 seconds. Her winning margin was over .8 of a second, which in short track is INSANE. It was Usain Bolt level good. What a star! Alas, the other big star of women's Short Track, Suk Hee Shim, has had a nightmare Olympics so far. She has yet to make it out of the Qualifying round in either the 500 or 1500. She has one more chance for an individual medal in the 1000. PyeongChang is just a few miles from where she grew up, so if she somehow makes it into the finals of the 1000, expect a maelstrom of craziness from the fans!

I also like short track speed skating...lots of drama and good opportunity for the Chinese and Koreans to GREASE the judges for a medal.
