Hey guys! I'm hearing a rumor that Se Ri Pak will not qualify for the field at the ANA Inspiration, and may not be given a sponsor's exemption. Anyone have any info about this? This is Se Ri's final year, and it would be a complete shame if she were not in the field. But maybe we can do something about it! Tony, if you could ping one of your contacts at the LPGA and confirm Se Ri's status. Perhaps you could even suggest that they should think about giving her one last chance at grabbing the elusive Grand Slam by granting her a special invite into the field. It's quite possible there would not even be an Asian sponsor like ANA for this event were it not for what she accomplished those many years ago and the huge Asian interest in the LPGA that she was instrumental in creating. As for the rest of us, we could let ANA know that we want to see Se Ri in the field. The email for the tournament is: info@ANAinspiration.com Remember, this is her farewell tour, and this is the one Major that has always escaped her to complete the career Grand Slam (we'll forget about Evian for a moment). Let's do the right thing for Se Ri!!!

I might add that if the LPGA were smart enough to market this as Se Ri's farewell appearance and last chance at the Slam, it would doubtless garner a HUGE amount of interest in the Korean media. That certainly couldn't hurt, right?

I hope this really isn't Se Ri's last year. Does she qualify for any majors? If she isn't in the field I'm not going to bother going out to that dump.

And if you do attend....I'd watch your back....he's likely to sucker punch for calling the ANA and Mission Hills a DUMP. You do know that he still visits this site don't you?

It was my understanding that active Hall of Fame members were exempt into what is now the ANA but I guess that may no longer be the case. This would be a good question for Tony to ask his contacts on the Tour about.

Se Ri's got nothing to prove....she's The Queen...end of story. Arnie never won the PGA Championship....and no one will ever be THE KING....no one. Here's the qualification criteria....but who knows how accurate it is....Annika and Lorena aren't in category 2. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_ANA_InspirationSe Ri could have qualified under category 1 if she played more. I believe the ANA hands out it's invites to Am's. Let's face it.....do any of the pros really care about this fake major....how many of the past champs play....heck Annika can't even bother and she could make the cut on her knees. I think if ANA was to make an invite...they'd give one to Momoko. Happy....if you really want to pay tribute to The Queen to get a huge gallery out in Seattle to watch Se Ri in her farewell tour....you should contact the coordinator of The Women's PGA Championship....he lives in Seattle....I met and chatted with him at The Van City golf show in Feb. Ask him for a 2 for 1 promo ticket offer (they had a golf show 2 for 1 promo) that you can sell to people at your local H-Mart on the weekends leading up to the Championship in June......maybe Vern can assist. Maybe make up some...."The Queen" buttons to hand out to people at H-Mart so they can wear them at the tournament...but make sure to include a picture of Se Ri on the buttons...otherwise people might think the buttons are a tribute to Freddy Mercury.

Kevin Assuming the wiki thing in my above post is correct....active HOF members must have played 10 LPGA prior to a cut-off date....I assume it's before the Kia......Se Ri played 8 events in 2015 and is in this week's field and the Kia...that's 10....who knows when the cut-off date was?

According to the event website it is within 12 months prior to the commitment deadline of 22 March, which falls just before KIA, and Se Ri had played in just six events within that window with this week being #7. Barring a special exemption or a victory within the next two weeks her only hope would be Category 11: "Top-20 Players plus ties on the current year LPGA Official Money List at the end of the last official tournament prior to the current ANA Inspiration, not otherwise qualified above, provided such players are within the Top-80 positions on the current year LPGA Official Money List at the beginning of the tournament competition." Translation: she'd have to play lights out golf the next couple of weeks to have any hope. #80 on the current Money List is just above $16,000 at present.

I hope this really isn't Se Ri's last year. Does she qualify for any majors? As an active Hall of Fame member AND a past champion she is exempt into the Women's PGA at Sahalee. She's currently not exempt into any major beyond that, sadly.

Se Ri isn't going off in the sunset like Lorena or Mannika. I believe she will no longer play a full schedule but she will play select events. Maybe that's why there is no urgency in giving her an exemption to ANA.

Based on my best guess Se Ri would have to finish inside the top 20 at the Kia to have a chance to play at the ANA. With her 76 yesterday I had cause for concern but after righting the ship with a 68 to get back to level par she has an opportunity to control her destiny as she's inside the cut line.
Se Ri fighting!

Se Ri fighting! Kevin Kevin Nice early call and jinx...your reverse karma didn't work...Se Ri shot 70 and made the cut on the number. If your projection of top 20 is correct...The Queen only has approx 65 pros to shuffle over....hmmmm.

As for your second point, it's the top 20 in the Money list not already qualified so long as they're in the top 80 overall; many of the latter are already in the field so as long as Se Ri gets into the top 80 there's a good chance she'll be playing next week. The higher she finishes this week the better her chances.

Let me start by saying of course Se Ri can do whatever she wants in terms of setting her schedule as organizers are within their right to follow the guidelines they have established.
That said...
I know this isn't a team sport like basketball where the Lakers will play in every other city so Kobe Bryant will get a retirement tour where fans and organizations can show him respect. But I sure wish sponsors would find it within themselves to allow Se Ri into any event she wants to play, regardless of meeting some events played prerequisite. A legitimate argument could be made that no current athlete has changed the demographics of their tour like Se Ri. Show her the highest respect and let her play.
The question is, how much does Se Ri want to play ANA. As the missing jewel in her potential career Grand Slam crown, it's the event every year I most wanted her to play. And I think for many years she wanted badly to win it. But maybe she's reached peace with not winning ANA. I'm sure she knew what was necessary to qualify. Maybe not playing ANA is the final sign that this is it.
