I just discovered that this week is also KLPGA Qualifying School! In fact, it runs from November 18 - 21st. That means the first round is already done. Among the notable names in the field are Asian Games Gold Medalist, 18-year-old Park Gyeol, and 'The Yuna Kim of Korean Golf', Ji Hyun Oh (who played on the KLPGA this year but apparently did not secure a full card?). Also trying her luck is Screen Golf Queen Ye Ji Choi, who is herself just 19. Ye Ji Choi 2011 POY Hyun Hwa Shim is also reduced to Q School. Here are the results from round 1. I have no idea at this point how many players earn full cards, but if I find out I'll let you know! Scores: 1. Na Hye Ko, Ji Hyun Oh 66 -6 3. Bo Mi Park, Hee Mang Kim, So Young Park 68 -4 Notables: 6. Solar Lee, Su A Kim 69 -3 14. Ye Ji Choi, Gyeol Park 70 -2 40. Hyun Hwa Shim, Seon Hwa Lee 2 72 Even 54. Young Ran Jo, Jimin Jeong, Sarah Lee 73 +1 77. Sung Woon Lee, Ji Na Lim 74 +2

Gyeol Park shot a 67 in round two and is now tied for the lead. She might be the player in this field most likely to have a breakout rookie season next year, so I'm watching with some interest to see how she does here! Park last month Meanwhile, Screen Golf Queen Ye Ji Choi shot a 75 and slipped to 41st. 1. Gyeol Park, Yoo Yeon Hong, Do Yeon Kim: -7 4. Ji Hyun Oh 72 -6 8. Seon Hwa Lee 2 68 -4 14. Su A Kim -2 27. Ji Na Lim Even 41. Ye Ji Choi 75 +1

You know how the LPGA has an age limit?
I hear the KLPGA is now instituting a REVERSE age limit. You can not play past the age of 25.
I jest, of course, but it's just funny how, every time HF writes up a KLPGA event, he always has "teenager (name)". From this point on, I'm going to assume that a player being referred to on the KLPGA Tour is a teenager unless HF tells me otherwise.
Also, go Gyeol! I'll be following her career closely after watching her at the Asian Games.

I expect to see a few more teen stars emerge in the next year or two. In round 3, here are the results. Screen Queen Choi continues to fall, but Gyeol Park and Ji Hyun Oh are in good position to (re)gain KLPGA cards for 2015. 1. Do Yeon Kim 69 -10 2. Gyeol Park 71 -8 3. Eu Dom Lee 70 -7 - Ji Hyun Oh 71 -7 5. Na Hye Ko 72 -6 Notables: 6. Seon Hwa Lee 2 71 -5 32. Ji Na Lim 72 Even - Su A Kim 74 Even 53. Young Ran Jo 77 +2 66. Sarah Oh 70 +3 - Ye Ji Choi 74 +3 76. Seung Ji Han 72 +4 - Sarah Lee 72 +4 - Sung Woon Lee 74 +4

I'm not surprised the Screen Queen is falling. No fat shots, no wind, no humidity, no rain, no cold, no heat stroke, no downhill, sidehill, uphill lies, no rough, no hard pan, no wet sand, no fluffy sand, no bermuda, rye, fescue or poa anna, no mud balls, no flyers. no spike marks, no divots, etc, etc.
It really is crazy there's a Screen Tour...but the again there's a Mini-Putt tour.

Q-School is done. No surprise who's number 1. Gyeol Park shot a final round 67 to finish tops at 13 under total. I'm looking forward to seeing her on the KLPGA next year! Do Yeon Kim finished second. She was born in 1990, so is a comparatively ancient 24. Among the other top finishers were Seon Hwa Lee 2 and teen star Ji Hyun Oh. I'm still not sure who gets a card and who doesn't, but here are the final results: 1. Gyeol Park 67 -13 2. Do Yeon Kim 70 -12 3. Seon Hwa Lee 2 68 -9 - Ji Hyun Oh 70 -9 5. Hyun Jin Park 2 66 -8 Notables: 30. Ji Na Lim 71 -1 58. Yuna Park 72 +2 71. Jimin Jeong 71 +3 - Sung Woon Lee 71 +3 - Sarah Lee 71 +3 83. Sarah Oh 73 +4 93. Young Ran Jo 75 +5 104. Ye Ji Choi 75 +6

I guess Seon Hwa Lee is leaving the LPGA. Although I haven't seen her name in any tournaments lately. Funny a distant family member of hers and a friend of Jimin Kang was the reason I became a SO Yeon fan. WE played golf together, and decided to go to the LPGA tournament and follow Jimin. It was SO Yeon rookie year and she was paired with Jimin.
I was so impressed by her game and how nice she were. After the tournament Jimim came over to talk to him. Later So Yeon came over to say hi, through her caddie and thank us for following her.
I became an instant fan, of her game and her.

Nice write-up, but Park Gyeol won the gold medal for South Korea, not the USA! The Seon Hwa Lee they are talking about is not the same Seon Hwa Lee as plays on the LPGA (hence the '2' after her name). But she is popular in her own right, so I mentioned her. I have read that the LPGA's Seon Hwa Lee is planning on getting married soon and may in fact leave the LPGA when that happens. It was just a brief mention in a Korean-language article (so I may have some of the details wrong, it sometimes takes me a few minutes to absorb when I read Korean), but if I learn more I'll let you know. Her prospective hubby is also a pro golfer.

Nice write-up, but Park Gyeol won the gold medal for South Korea, not the USA! You sure? I mean, the US wins at everything, even competitions they don't compete in. I fixed it. I have no idea what that was all about.

Mi Hyun KIm is still my number one sister. So Yeon Is 1a.
That's why she is pictured, and not So Yeon.

I didn't realize the picture was of Mi Hyun Kim (I guess having no past-the-knee shorts threw me We used to love her Daly-esque swing. Followed her at the last du Maurier (in 2000)
