so Whan technically does not need to act impartial on that one. Of course Whan needs to act non-partisan ....he's fawning over all things Merican...how would the Koreans, Chinese, Australians, South Africans, etc thinks about all his US fanboying. You think Finchem would act this way?.....or any NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB commissioner fawning over one specific team. I agree that Whan needs to act impartial in other LPGA events. But the Solheim is different, it is co-sanctioned by LPGA and LET. Just like the Ryder Cup are between PGA of America (not PGA Tour) and European Tour(largely) All parties involved are passionate about the rivalry. I'll give Whan the license to do a little fanboying in this.  I doubt the Asian players give a crap about all this. |

IMO....winning 4 different women's major = Grand Slam Winning 5 different majors = Super Grand Slam. So what would you call Karrie Webb if she wins the Evian next year ( which she almost did last year ) ? She would have won 6 different majors in her career.  In an attempt to clarify this mess by artificially creating this kind of title, the LPGA actually opened itself up for even more ridicule. This is the only clear blunder made by Whan. Super Duper Grand Slam? |

I don't have a problem with 4 = Grand Slam for these reasons.
1. There is only one player in history (Webb) who has won more than four. Getting a Grand Slam is already hard enough; five is all but impossible.
2. There have been many times when there were fewer than four Majors on tour, and I have to think at least one player won all of them during those years. But if you look at the official list, everyone on it won four different Majors. So even at times when there were fewer than four, the LPGA has assumed a career Grand Slam = 4 Majors.
3. If a player starts her career trying to win four Majors, and manages to win the four that were there when she started (as Inbee has done), that to me is achieving the Slam. Look at the case of Se Ri Pak. She has spent most of her career trying to win four specific tournaments. Now, when she is about to retire, along comes a fifth. If she were to win the ANA, she would be deprived of a Slam? That's silly!

Yeah, Annika Sorenstam never had the opportunity to win the newly majored Evian, so to suddenly say she doesn't hold the Career Grand Slam makes no sense. Besides, we still say Bobby Jones is the only man to ever win the calendar Grand Slam, and we don't consider the amateur titles to be majors anymore.
