I will also repeat that the tours are so much more deep in talent, than it was in the old days. Blumhearst never won a U S Am she won NCAA.
If you play well enough today to get in all tournaments. You are not a failure. There are few stars any every sport, weather they were great amateurs or not.

Blumenherst won the 2008 women's USGA US Am and never won a NCAA individual title Azahara Munoz won the 2008 NCAA individual title and lost to Blumie in the finals at the 2008 Am in Eugene. Coincidentally, I met the elderly couple twice in Portland (Safeway) who housed the Spanish team of Aza, Belen and Carlota in Eugene....they are members of Eugene G&CC. Not surprisingly....they'd go to Belen's room where Mozo would have the gals laughing telling stories and jokes. Blumie was a bust for The Dark Side (Nike). I wonder if Nike will sign up a 3rd "premier/featured" women pro?.....after low ROI's with Paige & Blumie. Cheyenne, Carly Booth, Kristie Smith, Jennifer Kirby, etc are Nike pros but not their featured female pros. But a female's contract is petty cash compared to Rory or TW's endorsements.

I'm still kind of surprised and disappointed Minjee didn't plat the USGA Women's AM. When was the last time, male or female, #1 ranked Am, didn't play the USGA Am? 2013 Lydia Ko was the #1 ranked amateur & defending us women's amateur, but decided to play the Ricoh Womens British Open at The Old Course St. Andrews.

Sure it means something to the old timers but times have changed. The US Women's Amateur means nothing nowadays.Patty Berg, Babe Didrikson, Louise Suggs, Julie Simpson. I'm sure an Australian has never heard of them, except for Inkster.
