naver.me/xAFuT3kgWhen is Ina going to sit down and learn the rules? 18 months to remember the rule book and she learned nothing. Youmin! Come on. Players need to learn the rules. This is embarrassing.

Even the TV commentator said that they were allowed to play the hole they were on (17 in this case), so this is one of those lesser known rules, as obvious by the number of players, caddies, officials, commentators and others who were confused.
And the final group didn't even get an advantage from violating the rule. They still would have to get up early the next morning to play 18 even if they played 17 in darkness. In fact, it was probably dumb to play 17 in the darkness from a strategy point of view. So I'm not too outraged about this one.

Reading the article, it seems the Rule Officials took some of the blame by adding to the confusion. They didn't blame the players, they accepted that they took responsibility.
Ina Yoon may be gone to the LPGA sometime soon so no need to pick any little rule that she may have broken.

The referees have a little leeway with the rules. I look at this a little like what happened with Hyo Joo a few weeks ago, when her caddie cast a shadow over her ball that might have helped it to fall into the hole. Apparently this is strictly forbidden, but the umps decided that he "didn't mean to do it" and let her off the hook. On the one hand, I don't think intention is part of the rule. On the other, this would be a really stupid reason to DQ someone.
Imagine DQing five of the leaders at a Major because the people ahead of them made so many mistakes and thus were so slow that the leaders couldn't finish their rounds in time? Boy would that have been a disaster...

I agree with what you all are saying.
If you had a rule violation wouldn't you want to review the rules and make sure you didn't get in trouble again?
I don't like this reliance on rules officials and seemingly faking ignorance of the rules. Shouldn't the players know the rules?
I'm looking forward to that day when Ina can speak up and quote the rules and prevent another player from making an error and help the officials or whatever due to her intelligence and knowledge, but it seems that day is long in the future.

The referees in the siren incident have been punished by being suspended for the rest of the season. They apologized to the players for any confusion. It's not clear if there will be any additional repercussions for the players as well, but based on this article, it seems unlikely. Siren referees suspended
