Starts Friday for a field of 108 ... top-50 plus ties make the cut. Some of AIGWO squad will tee it up here, while others are skipping it in favor of the JLPGA major next week.

Practice -
Miroku Suto (age 13) is back ... I couldn't find a recent swing of hers on YT, but I recall watching it on the highlights of the JLPGA broadcast last week ... she has two distinct pauses at the top of her backswing ... ack, like Charles Barkley 😱 ... but I assume the results are better.

Rio Takeda is back after bombing out at AIGWO ... said her 5-iron went only 100 yards into the wind   ... 
... nevertheless, she is programmed to make it to the LPGA. Per Wikipedia and other sources, her mom, Tetsuko Hirase, is or was a pro and her aunt, Mayumi Hirase (below, who I never heard of before), won 18 times on Japan's big tour and also won the co-sanctioned 1996 Toray Japan Queen's Cup on the LPGA ... also had a T-19 at the 1996 USWO.

I checked the Leaderboard and saw that Kotone and Yui were not playing.
But it was good to see Natsuka minus two early and it was great that she got better.

I remember hearing about Mayumi Hirase back in the day. I have no idea why, but I recall her. I remember her, i lived in Japan in 1992 - 1996 and she was a star, tall by Japanese standards 5ft 9 and a long hitter she and Akiko Fukushima used to battle it out weekly it seemed and had huge galleries turning up weekly for events. She does quite a lot of commentary on the JLPGA for Fuji TV. She beat Laura Davies in a playoff for the annual JLPGA/LPGA event. |

Pars on her first three holes Sunday, but a few players have passed her. 
I didn't know until now that Golf 5 was using its YouTube channel to show the early morning range work by the players (6 - 8 AM local time, so it's already finished) ... they mixed in a few interviews, including Hori One at 1:07:43 -
