AKA The New Ko Championship will begin on Thursday, May 9. Beth Daniel is this year's honoree and Eubanks posted a nice article on her via lpga.com.
One of the two sponsor invitees is Bailey Three (U. of SoCal) ... the other is still vacant. The Monday qualifier field will be complete with 27 or 28 names ... Annie Park dropped out, so I assume she'll focus on the USWO qualifier in Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

She may have gotten injured, the mysterious WD remains unsolved.

Ashley Shaw (age 15) won THE JOHN SHIPPEN Cognizant Cup held at UMCC today and picked up the other sponsor invite position ... Mo Stacks is twice her age ... might be time for her to get on with her life's work.
Pos. Player To Par Gross Thru Tota lGross 1 Shaw, Ashley (a) Litchfield Park, AZ +1 F 73
T2 Stackhouse, Mariah Atlanta, GA +3 F 75 T2 Oboh, Georgia Manchester, England +3 F 75 4 Johnson, Janelle Royal Palm Beach, FL +5 F 77 5 Crawford, Paige Colorado Springs, CO +6 F 78 6 Barnett, Madison Mableton, GA +8 F 80 7 March, Cami Los Angeles, CA +13 F 85 8 Thomas, Micaa' Haines City, FL +17 F 89
How will Shaw out-do this outfit the rest of the week?
*********
Laura Wearn and Sophia Schubert both shot -4 to pass the Monday qualifier. Schubert also passed the Monday qualifier at Palos Verdes ... at #177 on the latest LPGA priority list, she doesn't have many alternatives.

Nelly will have to go some to out do her Met Gala outfit. She looked classy compared to some of the freaks you get going to that event.

My field rating for this event is a very solid 76%, way up from 71% last year. This will be one of the best non-major fields of the year. My breakdown is 83% from the LPGA Priority List and 69% from the Rolex Rankings. Eight of the top ten players in the world rankings will be teeing it up this week! The field will be led by top ten players: Nelly Korda (1) Celine Boutier (2) Ruoning Yin (4) Jin Young Ko (5) Defending Champion and three time winner of this event! Brooke Henderson (6) Hannah Green (7) Minjee Lee (9) Lydia Ko (10) Top ten players skipping the event this week: Lilia Vu (2) - Injury Charley Hull
Other stuff: Ruoning Yin missed the cut at last week's tournament, putting a halt on her cut streak at 18 straight. Hannah Green's win last week was her second of the year, and second for Australia. The USA leads the year with six victories, no other country has more than one. Jin Hee Im has taken over the top spot for this year's Louise Suggs Rookie of the Year award. She leads with 220 points. Gabriela Ruffles (201), Mao Saigo (164), Mone Inami (149), and Austin Kim (130) round out the top five.
There was some interesting moves in the Rolex Rankings by LPGA players since last reported two weeks ago: Jin Young Ko moves into the top five with a move from 7 to 5. Hannah Green makes the most important move Skyrocketing from 18 to 7. Majo Stark, who has finished second in the last two tournaments, vaults up from 28 to 15. Haeran Ryu rises from 31 to 25. Jin Hee Im Jumps from 42 to 37. Mao Saigo Springs up from 52 to 46. Esther Henseleit leaps up from 72 to 63. Emily Kristine Pedersen surges from 87 to 79. Of special note, Amy Yang drops from 15 to 17, and Alison Lee drops from 14 to 16. Why is that significant you may ask? Both players have now fallen out of an Olympic spot. They need to get back into the top fifteen to make the team.

Here's Jin Young's press conference.
Look, sooner or later Korda is going to belly flop. Why not this week, when all eyes are on her? And Jin Young really likes this course, so here's hoping if Korda does screw up, Jin Young is there to pick up the slack. Hwaiting!

My guess is that we'll see quite a bit of Céline and Lexi on Thursday afternoon, with Lauren Coughlin along for the ride (Lauren currently CME #14, compare to Lexi #58)
Also Rose, Lydia, and Megan Khang along for the ride... that would be (the real) Haney's featured group, [sarcasm] "Zhang, Khang, and Ko, I'm picking those three Koreans..." [/sarcasm]
What I would like to know is how to watch the action... I don't see any channel or network that I can actually see until CNBC on Sunday...

Thanks 18 majors. So if I got this right, Sunday's final round will now be broadcast live on CNBC 3 to 5 EST

Caddie list is out ... which confirms my observations from today:
1.) NASA with T-Mac ... just temporary as Greg Johnston has the week off.
2.) MHL with Su Min Yu ... her regular loop Nick DiBello landed with Mone Inami ... a temporary loan out or did he get canned? Su Min is no stranger to golf ... on the par-3 6th, one of the amateurs lent him a PXG iron, which he then swung proficiently to knock a ball onto the green.
3.) Money Chien with Cheeseburger Chad (I assume the Ice Cream Princess dumped him).

Yealimi might be the shortest hitter in her group 😧 playing with EKP and Mel Reid - yet another favorable drawing with her tee times. Ideal as well for her Solheim prospects.

Yuri is gaining her sea legs in the U.S. ... first, she demolished Soule Park in her USWO qualifier and now she is -3 thru 11 holes here. A Japanese article quoted her as saying she felt she was still playing "March" golf ... had she remained on the JLGPA, she would have played ten events by now. Anyone who carries a non-set 5-iron with lead tape is a serious baller.

Technically, yes, but there was barely a difference, per the 2023 stats:
8 Emily Kristine Pedersen 272.463
10 Mel Reid 272.291
12 Yealimi Noh 271.235
******
Solheim? Did you say Solheim?! Dr. Noh is 21st on the US points list ... however, some of players ahead of her are vulnerable .... DK stinks, LEXI (tm) doesn't care, Pano/Bailey Two/Ryann are one-time winners (maybe forever).
