The happiest words I've heard on TV this year: 'Jin Young Ko is completely healthy'. Just watched a couple of holes. Great approach on one, drained a ten foot birdie. Just missed a birdie on two. Looking sharp, in a good mood. Go Jin Young Go!

On da bus 🚌 heading to the tournament. Free ride from the mall and over 60 get in free. Fantastic place to retire. Last year we played Siam Plantation then walked over to the Old Course for day one.
Will be interesting to see old familiar faces like MH Lee, Jenny Shin etc. And Lucy Li all grown up.

I actually like the broadcast window of these Asian tournaments as a night owl here in USA, EST, GMT-5. Nice to see the sisters in action again, and "Lilia Vu, I love you..."

I was afraid Pornanong Phatlum was done but she shot a very good round today.
After starting her rookie year with a second-place finish here last year and then a T6 at Lotte, Natthakritta Vongtaveelap made only one other cut for the rest of the season. She ended it ignominiously with a DQ at the US Women's Open. She's hitting the restart button here.

Round 1 This event tends to be a low scoring one, so not surprisingly a lot of players had good rounds today. It does seem like they toughened up the rough a little, so hopefully the winning score will be nearer to 16 under than 22 under, but we'll see. One of the big stories coming in is Amy Yang. This is the event she has won more than any other, and she is looking to shore up her ranking to qualify for the Olympics. But she had the worst score of any of the Koreans, 1 over, although that is not too bad and she still has time to recover. She probably wants to have a good result here of all places. Hyo Joo Kim started her season strongly; she actually missed a short birdie on the last for 66, but 67 puts her t-3rd. Also at that level are Jenny Shin (talking Australian-accented English in her post-round interview!) and Mi Hyang Lee. Shin seems to be on a roll right now, let's see how things go. Sei Young Kim shot a 66 and is solo second, two back of the Taiwanese Chien. She has managed the occasional good round in the past eight months, but the question for her is, can she get into contention? I feel like one or two of the older Sisters is going to have a decent year, and she would be a prime candidate for a comeback. Jin Young Ko is injury free. She certainly looked solid. It was like watching her in 2019; not long off the tee, but precise and unflappable. She made a few mistakes with distance control on the front nine, hit at least one bad drive, and was being outdriven by Ariya as you would expect. But her short game was *chef's kiss*. She had a brilliant chip in on one hole, put a bunch of irons close to the hole, and made several beautiful putts. At one point she one-putted like five times in a row. I loved the way she played 18: laid up even though she might have been able to reach the green. Hit her third to about eight feet, then drilled the birdie right in the middle. 4 under 68. Go Jin Young Go! Hwaiting!

It's crowded at the top nine players within one shot of the lead.
Good to see Sei Young Kim in the Final Group, had seven birdies and one bogey. Looks like her game is returning, as she had a chance to win her last Tournament the CME.
Jin Young Ko was a little rusty as expected, but her short game rescued her.
Great clean score card five birdies for Mi Hyang Lee as her game is getting better and better.
Hyo Jo Kim had six birdies but had a three-putt bogey on par five eighteen.
Jenny Shin great play continues but still missis two or three short birdie putts.
A Lim Kim had another typical for her round, eight birdies, one double and three birdies. Hoping one day that she would be more consistent but that's how she scored on the KLPGA also. Would love for her to show up on the Leaderboard more because she is fun to watch.

I like Kang. She's certainly paid her dues. Big health problems then her boyfriend strayed and married an average quality white lady.

Ayaka in a "Fur-oo yellow" skirt today, and of all people, Madelene Sagstrom (!) is wearing an Amy Yang style hat! Must be good luck for Sagstrom as she's currently minus-3 on the day and in a four-way tie for the lead at minus-8. Jin Young, Hyo Joo, Sei Young, A Lim, and MHL are plugged in enough to stay in striking distance of the lead. Go sisters!

But what's with Celine Borge? She must be getting bad advice on club selection or shot placement from her caddy?

"Never rule out Jin Young Ko," says the male Aussie announcer. Hope that he's right this weekend...
