The LPGA has changed the rules so that if a player wins an event that allows her to earn a tour card, she will earn points for Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year for that win. Until now, only tour members could earn points for winning events.
One guess as to why they changed it? Aw, someone must have told you!

So now they can claim that, if only those rules had been there before, a certain American they have relentlessly been pushing might have won the Rookie of the Year instead of that Korean chick.
Of course, when A Lim Kim won the US Women's Open and earned a tour card, no one was busy changing the rules so that her Major win would count towards the Rookie of the Year race that year. And recall that the race that year was two years long, 2020-21, so she was part of the ROY race for that span.
