Yeah, the chicken is really odd. Different than the usual tweeting birds, that's for sure.
Hyo Song Lee has gotten off to a fantastic start: 4 under on the front nine and in the lead. At this point we also have Hee Jeong Lim one back, Da Yeon Lee two back, and Min Sol Kim three back. They just showed Min Byeol and Youmin (misidentifying them as So Young and Da Yeon Lee). Min Byeol hit a nice approach to the chicken hole, but they never showed the putt. She's at +1, but they didn't show Youmin's score.

Not much for me to add except I hope that the Korean golfers add to their good first rounds.
Also get shown a lot more than the first round at least show them finish the holes shown.

Yeah, that was annoying. You'd see someone hit a great shot, then never find out if she'd made the birdie. Somehow they showed everyone in Min Byeol's group on 18 except her, so I have no idea how she made the eagle (hole out? Reached the green?). Anyways, fabulous first day from the youngest person in the field, Hyo Song Lee. It would be incredible if she could stay in contention, although it seems unlikely. Min Sol Kim was more up and down but hung in there and is only four back; alas, I don't recall seeing her at all on the coverage. Da Yeon Lee just seemed really sharp all day, even with a couple of missed shortish putts. Hee Jeong also had a good day. Min Byeol and Youmin seemed to struggle much of the day. Interestingly, when Youmin or others are asked about Min Byeol's greatest strength, they always say its her unflappable personality. She really needed it today. She fell down to 2 over, but rallied as she often does, making two birdies and an eagle late to finish just two back. More than any other quality she has, it's this calmness in the face of adversity that convinces me she is someone special. Youmin played well here last year, so I'm hoping she can brush herself off and excel the next two days. Hwaiting!  |

So Yi Jeong signed an incorrect scorecard and called the penalty on herself. That's why she was DQed and Lim is playing alone.
Thitikul just made a few birdies in a row and now has a four shot lead. I wish it weren't the case, but this already feels like it is over.

Da Yeon Lee nearly dunked it from the rough for eagle. Not sure how it didn't go in, but a tap-in birdie upcoming.

Youmin came up with a 68 today, Min Byeol a 71, so they moved up the team standings. But suddenly they are saying that Hyo Song Lee had a triple on 16?? I just watched it and it sure looked like a par to me. What happened?

Hee Jeong Lim and Min Byeol had an ok day at minus one.
Hee Jeong made bogey on seventeen came back with birdie on eighteen.
Atthaya shot a course record, but she missed two short putts for par on seventeen and for birdie 0n eighteen.
Make excuses for So Young Lee slow play but as usual her group is over a hole behind.

They kept screwing up the calls today. Still don't know how Hyo Song got a triple; they called it like a par at the time. Ditto the bogey Da Yeon apparently made late; they were listing her as 7 under when she finished on 18, but now she's 6 under. When they show players so haphazardly if at all, they have to at least get the scores correct or it's impossible to follow the action. The Sisters are doing well, but they could end up getting blanked by the Thais. Thitikul has the individual title wrapped up. No way she's losing a five shot lead. And that means she has the team title almost locked up as well. Meanwhile, Galitzky looks set to get the low amateur. There's still plenty of time for Min Sol and/or Hyo Song to get the low am, of course, but they have to make putts. It was super frustrating watching them all miss so many makeable putts today. Fingers crossed at least a couple of the ladies get hot with the flatstick tomorrow. And hopefully they'll show Min Byeol! They didn't show her once today that I saw, and only showed Youmin once despite the fact she had the second lowest round of the day. Good luck to the Sisters tomorrow! There is still time to get some hardware! Hwaiting!!  |
