Great job by Hae Ran! She came in the favorite IMO and she lived up to her billing. Best of luck giving your speech on Thursday, Hae Ran! How many of the 14 Rookies of the Year from Korea can you name? No cheating, only from memory!

There was no way I was going to guess all fourteen so I checked the rookies of the year lists since 1998. What a fascinating study!
I come to realize how many players just fade away. It didn't seem that long ago when I was watching the exploits of Katherine Kirk and MJ Hur. Those old soldiers are nowhere to be found. I noticed that about Lizette Salas earlier today. She hasn't played since the US Open in early July. Will she come back next year?
Both Jessica Korda and Charlie Hull finished 10th in their respective rookie years.
Re-familiarize yourself with the 2007 rookie race where the supernova Angela Park easily fended off a cohort of talented Korean players.

I remembered them all, although I forgot one the first time through (wouldja believe it was Jiyai Shin I forgot??). The most amazing stats are that Hyo Joo Kim, Inbee Park and Grace Park all failed to win the Rookie of the Year. They all had a lot of success after that, though!
