So you can put faces to the names, here are some of the recent amateurs in the field this week.. Ye Ji Park played a few KLPGA events this year. From the Hanwha Classic: Hyun Jo Yoo is in second right now: Ji Yu Lim is also on the leaderboard: I An Cho looks like she will be on the Dream Tour next year Cherry Lim also played a few KLPGA events but is struggling this week

Correct me if I'm wrong.
Major winners already have 2024 tour membership. Event winners already have 2024 tour membership. Top 60 in money already have 2024 tour membership. The top 20 Dream tour money list already have 2024 tour membership.
This is the 2024 seed event to fill out the last 45 seed spots. The better you do the more 2024 events you can participate in.
Moon Jeong Min played this event last year. It resulted in her playing some KLPGA events this year but she also played Dream tour. She won the Dream tour money list and will be a full KLPGA member in 2024. Moon was able to play about half the KLPGA events due to her seed and Dream tour performance in 2023.
This event is pressure!!

Correct.
Min Byeol Kim won this event last year and went on to get the Rookie of the Year, so if Hyun Jo Yoo or Ji Yu Lim claims the win here, she would have to be a favorite for the ROY in 2024 (many in the field are, of course, not first timers and would not be rookies next season).

Yes, I assume Min Byeol couldn't qualify any other way and was forced to play this event and won it. Good for her. It got her into a lot of events in 2023. Enough to win ROY. Congratulations 🎊 If, on the other hand, there was a player who did not need to play this event and flew through the lower divisions like Yewon did finishing 5th in Dream Tour money in her first attempt...you might have your 2024 ROY candidate. 😃

Yeah, interestingly, the best players in Yewon's rookie year came through the Dream Tour: Ina Yoon won the Dream Tour money list and Yewon was 5th. Last year, however, the best came through Q-School: Min Byeol won, Youmin Hwang was I think 6th, and Shin Sil Bang did not finish high enough to get a full card, which meant she didn't have full playing privileges until she won her first event. Fortunately for her, that came early in the year; I think it was her 4th or 5th event.
In fact, Yewon started 2021 on the Jump Tour, as she wasn't old enough to play the Dream Tour immediately. She won several events and advanced to the Dream Tour, where she quickly won again. Meanwhile, Ina, who is a few months younger, was stuck on the Jump Tour until the summer, when she turned 18, but like Yewon, won multiple events there. She eventually advanced to the Dream Tour, quickly won as well, and took over the money list lead from Yewon. They were joined at the hip all year!

So my point is, who flew thru the lower ranks in 2023 and could have an awesome year in 2024?
Ina and Yewon might have been somewhat joined at the hip in 2021, but not 2022.
After the Korean Women's Open in June, Yewon already had 1221 ROY points, while Ina was half that with 662 Rookie points.
I know you swear up and down that Ina would have won the ROY last year but she would have had to beat 3000+ points. I can't believe Ina would have done that without winning more events.

Looking at the comparison of Min Byeol and Yewon's ROY points totals is interesting.
Yewon flew out of the gate on 2022 getting to 1000+ ROY points after only NINE events.
It took Min Byeol 23 events to reach 2000+ ROY points. Yewon did it in 22 events.
According to YOUR records on this forum. Yewon and Min Byeol were tied at 2017 ROY points after KB*.
Over the final stretch, Yewon gained 984 points in the last 8 events for a total of 3001.
Min Byeol gained 952 points over the last nine events to finish with 2969.
So there was definitly an opening for Min Byeol to go over 3001 points this year but didn't. Maybe it shows how insane Yewon's 2022 campaign really was. 🤔
Welcome to the Yewon Era

I know you swear up and down that Ina would have won the ROY last year but she would have had to beat 3000+ points. I can't believe Ina would have done that without winning more events. I don't "swear up and down" that Ina would have won Rookie of the Year, it's just my theory that it could have happened and I personally think it would have, but it wouldn't have surprised me at all if it didn't. It was more a hunch than a definitive statement on my part. I did point out that the same pattern that had happened on the Dream Tour -- Yewon got out to a huge lead, then Ina caught and passed her -- seemed to also be in the process of happening on the KLPGA when Ina was taken out of action. Around the time she had won, Ina was hitting her stride, with multiple top three finishes in succession culminating in a win. She had reduced the gap to its smallest since the start of the year. Heck, Min Byeol was great all year but still lost the ROY lead once or twice in the middle of the season, and Hwang was always hovering nearby until she was forced to drop out of the second to last event. And Kim had the second highest Rookie total ever, while Hwang only had one win, but she was nonetheless in danger of losing. So Lee's point total, great though it was, was not unbeatable by Yoon, especially if she had managed another win, which fellow long hitter Shin Sil Bang did do this year. As far as 'who flew through the lower ranks who could have a great 2024', assuming you are talking about rookies and not someone like Jeongmin Moon, who has already been on the KLPGA before: at this point, no one stands out. Two years ago, there was a lot of hype about Yewon and Ina, but so far at least the media has not made a big deal about the Dream Tour stars of 2023, so I don't have any predictions. Looking at the Dream Tour money list, the highest ranked player there who would be a rookie next year is I believe #5 Na Young Kim, and she has spent the past five years trying to get on tour, so not exactly a superstar resume.

Congrats to Ji Hyun Kim on winning this year's Q-School! Basically, the top 17 will get into any field in 2024 ('full privileges'); up to the top 50 have a card of some kind, although the farther down someone is the less likely she can get into a tournament. Second place Ji Hyun Lee 7 retains full privileges: Hyun Jo Yoo will be a top rookie challenger next season. Here she is with her medals from the Asian Games: 1 Ji Hyun Kim -16 67(6) 68(16) 68(6) 69(5) 272 2 Ji Hyun Lee 7 -14 67(10) 69(32) 68(8) 70(12) 274 3 Da In Shin -14 67(14) 67(7) 69(12) 71(20) 274 4 Jimin Jeong 2 -14 67(13) 69(30) 67(1) 71(26) 274 5 Hyun Jo Yoo -13 67(11) 67(9) 71(39) 70(14) 275 6 Joon Yi Lee -13 69(35) 65(3) 71(48) 70(15) 275 7 Uree Jun -13 69(40) 66(5) 69(24) 71(28) 275 8 Ye Na Hwang -12 68(31) 65(2) 70(29) 73(68) 276 9 Yu Na Hwang -10 68(18) 69(21) 71(53) 70(13) 278 10 Ji Yu Lim -10 68(30) 67(12) 71(49) 72(51) 278 Notables: 13 Min A Yoon -8 69(43) 70(50) 70(36) 71(29) 280 Limited cards -- get into fields with 120+ players mostly: 18 Yae Eun Hong -7 67(15) 70(38) 72(61) 72(36) 281 21 Jee Hyun Ahn -7 71(70) 67(6) 71(45) 72(47) 281 28 Sehee Lee -5 67(9) 73(101) 73(83) 70(10) 283 Limited cards: get into fields with 132+ players mostly: 31 LI Shuying(I) -5 72(90) 69(20) 70(34) 72(43) 283 34 Ye Ji Park -4 73(110) 69(22) 71(52) 71(16) 284 Limited cards: only get into 144 player fields: 41 Kum Kang Park -4 69(39) 72(86) 69(23) 74(76) 284 Did not get a card: 51 Min Sung Ha -3 65(1) 70(51) 77(119) 73(62) 285 62 Ju Yeon In -1 70(57) 69(28) 75(107) 73(65) 287 68 Eun Jeong Seong +1 72(86) 71(67) 73(69) 73(53) 289 79 Cherry Lim +1 71(69) 73(96) 74(90) 71(31) 289 97 Ah Ro Mi Kim +6 73(106) 72(68) 77(121) 72(37) 294 106 I An Cho +8 71(76) 76(125) 73(80) 76(96) 296 112 Sun Jeung Youn +10 70(55) 76(124) 73(73) 79(116) 298
