Yay? I mean, great that she will get to play in the Korea Women's Open next year and the year after that, but that's only two events. And I'm not even sure she qualifies for them anymore, she'll probably have to enter a qualifier. The real goal is to get the KLPGA ban lifted. But this is great news, and long overdue! #FreeYoonIna |

I have some faith that the KLPGA will announce a similar move soon. Much like the original punishment, I think they wanted to wait until the KGA made the first move. Now that they have, they will look really stupid if they keep up the original sentence despite the momentum in her favor. KLPGA response: The KLPGA Tour has said it has no reason for Yoon's disciplinary reduction. "There has been no official request for a reduction in Yoon's disciplinary punishment," a KLPGA official said, "so there is nothing to discuss yet. However, there is also a decision made by the Korea Golf Association, so we will consider the reasons for the reduction and the application for relief in the future when it is received." So probably Ina focused on the KGA first and now will turn her efforts towards the KLPGA. The tour's response is basically, "well, no one asked us so we aren't reducing it. But since the KGA did reduce it, maybe we will also if someone (Ina) asks really nicely..." By the way, right now three of the top four sports articles in terms of views on Daum have to do with this announcement. |

Another interesting thing to consider: by virtue of her win last year, Ina earned a two-year card for the KLPGA. That means if the KLPGA lets her on tour next season, she will be able to play with full membership. However, if they choose to go with the original return date of 2025, she will NOT have tour membership. And I saw an article that confirmed that she will have a card if she rejoins next year, that was not impacted by her suspension.
I hope the KLPGA doesn't try to make an example of her by purposely holding her back until 2025, because that would have the added effect of costing her that card.

The fans are planning to submit even more signatures supporting Ina to the KLPGA in a couple weeks as they next target them to remove her restrictions. Fans will send many signatures to the KLPGA in OctoberI'm seeing more articles supporting her returning; there were almost none before. Even SBS suddenly released an Ina video earlier today talking about what the fans accomplished in helping get Ina's penalty reduced: The pressure is on; let's hope the KLPGA for once does the right thing. The Naver article with the above pic has this interesting stat, per Google mush:
After the KGA's announcement of a reduction in disciplinary action, Naver held a poll asking, ‘Will Yoon, who is involved in the Ogu Play controversy, return to the tour next year?’ As of 1:25 p.m. on the 27th, 3,004 people, or 73% of the 4,123 participants, voted that “that was enough self-reflection and appropriate action,” while 1,087 people (26%) were still opposed, saying, “It is still too early to return to the tour.” expressed an opinion. 
The article also said she donated all her winnings from the 13 Mickey Mouse tournaments in the U.S.  ... that, plus 50 cents will get you a cup of coffee. |

Yeah, they gave her a little publicity for one of the donations:  I think in all she's given $13K. That's not a ton, but certainly more than I've given to charity this year... She's basically surviving on the Hite sponsorship at this point. I'd love Hite Beer chairman to put a little pressure on the KLPGA, too. Might be a good time to do it, with the Major they sponsor coming up soon? We'll see. |

Interesting that they don't mention that the Minor League Golf Tour is a men's golf tour and that she was the only woman playing on it (yes, from shorter tees). It's possible they don't know.
Anyways, the Song Bo Bae story never ceases to amaze me. She withdrew from the event because she didn't agree with the ruling, and they hit her with a two-year suspension? She didn't even violate any rules, it's just the KLPGA being pissy about someone who dares to disagree with them. Then, when she wins a big event elsewhere, suddenly everything is all good again. We'll pretend that kerfuffle never happened. Incredible.

If I'm not mistaken (I might be), this just-released video discusses Se Ri Pak talking about Ina Yoon. Again, the translation is balky and I haven't found any articles discussing this yet, and my Korean is just poor enough that I'm not sure exactly what they are saying, but it sounds like Se Ri has had a change of heart and now says that Ina has done enough 'reflection' and that the time has come to lift the penalty on her. Ina can repay the fans and their faith in her, Se Ri says, by playing her heart out and entertaining them with great golf.
If this is true, all I can say is YES! If Se Ri Pak herself is willing to advocate for Ina I don't see how the KLPGA will be able to deny her full reinstatement. This development is one of the things I was most hoping to see happen; Se Ri's experience under the spotlight makes her uniquely qualified to help Ina in this situation. And her voice as the unquestioned Queen of Korean golf gives her a gravitas that will get attention and lend weight to this cause.
There's also a bit in there where it says either that Se Ri has talked to Ina or intends to, not sure which, but again, that would be amazing.

He feels: 'Signs that cheating is not punishable: The incident was one of the worst cheating incidents recorded in the history of golf around the world, and the punishment was only a three-year suspension, which was reduced to one year and six months. ' So apparently he's out of his mind. Yoon did it once, it didn't benefit her (she still missed the cut by a lot) and no one was impacted. And she came forward voluntarily to confess. I find it hard to believe this was the worst cheating scandal in recorded history. "If the incident occurred in the United States or the United Kingdom, there is no doubt about the punishment of a permanent suspension." Just like Lexi Thompson at the ANA Inspiration (remember her? She was permanently suspended after cheating on national TV during a Major which she was leading. Yeah, she was a big deal once before that happened. Only... she wasn't suspended for even one day, was she?). This guy is delusional. He claims that players will now think that it's OK to cheat because they won't lose everything if they are caught. Based on what? Do you really think Yoon will ever do anything illegal ever again after losing a year and a half of playing privileges and being publicly shamed like she was? This is patently ridiculous. He is apparently a paid sportswriter. |
