Today was the entry deadline for all the wannabes and washouts (field list not posted yet). In an effort to keep the delusional ones off of future Epson Tour priority lists, all players NOT completing four rounds will have NO priority status in 2024 ... same treatment for anyone shooting 88 or higher during the first three rounds.
It's being played later in August than usual, but will have the same blast furnace conditions at Mission Hills and Indian Wells. It runs August 28-31 with a cut after three rounds. The top 95 players (plus ties) following round four will advance to Stage Two in Florida (Oct. 17-20). LPGA Q-Series will be Nov. 30 thru Dec. 5 in Alabama.
I assume Erica Shepherd (Rolex #1316) will be in the desert. But, who knows about Sharon who fell off the Rolex rankings ... still playing golf Down Under ... she's #266 on the Epson Tour priority list (that plus 50 cents will get you a cup of coffee). |

For over 200 players, they're making a $2,500 donation to their favorite charity ... the LPGA.  There are 320 players in all ... most are not household names in their own households.
A few players still in college are here ... they can play as amateurs during the first two stages, but MUST turn pro to get in the Q-Series. I'm a bit surprised that The Tigress in the field ... a great talent for sure, but she's been disappointing in non-college events IMHO ... is she testing the waters or quitting school? Teammates Malia Nam and K. Muzi will also be here.
Other recent collegians include Oregon's Briana Chacon and Minori Nagano, Florida State's Charlotte Heath, Kentucky's Jensen Castle, Stanford's Angelina Ye, Clemson's Savannah Grewal and Michigan's (Count de) Monet Chun. Also here will be Sophie Zhang-Murphy who quit the team and/or dropped out of Princeton after one year. Her Tiger teammate Tiffany Kong will also be here.
Dinosaurs still roam the earth with Jean Reynolds and Charlotte Mayorkas. 
Suzuka Yamaguchi bombed off the LPGA a few years ago, but will try again. Here's a name I didn't expect from Japan: Akira Yamaji - has been one of the longest drivers over there, but doesn't have much to show for it.
It seems that Vivian Hou has stunk badly enough on the LPGA to force her into Stage One.
On the cheesecake front, Long Drive Champ Troy Mullins will be here, along with Sharmila Nicollet. But, for cheese AND talent, Erica Shepherd will take the q-school cake.  |

They're rotating among three courses during the first three rounds. The cut after three rounds will be the top-125 plus ties. After Round Four at Mission Hills the top-95 plus ties will advance to Stage Two in October. Here's the top-8, plus a few others I've seen during my past travels:

No upsets today ... 99 players at +1 or better will advance to Stage Two ... 25 players will NOT, but then no one ever heard of them anyway. Gabby Lemieux, who has a couple of past invites to the LPGA was a DQ, don't know why ... was +1 after three rounds ... no Epson status for you.
