Jeez, for time and distance, that was longest shuttle I ever took to a golf event. The scanning of my phone ticket did not go smoothly. Now at the range ... JTibs, Su Oh, Greeny, Pernilla, Shibuno, Kemp, Kyriacou, Jeeno Jat, Paphangkorn, etc.
Georgia and Ryann just teed off at #2 ... walked the fairway with some distance between them ... as if they are strangers ... uh huh.🤔🤣 Gimme teed off at #3 as a single. Now they hit at the 3rd tee ... looks like pacing off driver distances may be out this week ... as expected, I see buffer zone roping, can't get close to the fairways. I don't see any obvious yardage markers at this tee box ... will discreetly check the fairways to see if any are there.
No. 5 is a WOW hole, par-4, 377 yards ... three big bunkers across the fairway and another three in front of the green ... 2nd shot is uphill. I'll post a pic of it later, but looks a lot better in person. Gimme hit 3w here and the tee blocks were at the 377 sign ... my first video of the day.
A lot of potential trouble at par-4 15th (388), downwind ... MJ Uribe and Jodi ES are there now, experimenting with FW and driver. MJ hit iron from 150, JES was further back, but she also hit a driver to about 110 ... the approach is uphill.
Inky the semi-retiree teed off into the wind at par-4 14th ... hit an iron well-short of flag and a UT well-long of flag. Her coach is here ... might be Gary Gilchrist, but not sure ... I think I last saw that guy with The Old Ko at Bedminster in 2017. As expected, TMac is looping.
Team Oz (Kemp, Kyriacou, Grace Kim) just finished up at 5th green ... thick grass behind green ... Steph practicing chips out of it with coach "Grant" watching ... a lot coaches are here ... I think Steph's dad is also here. JTibs now at 5th green, hitting flops out of the junk ...Asian guy with her has the coach look. Paphangkorn is here with Jason and a guy who has the daddy look.
Brianna Do getting close-in guidance from coach at practice area for chipping out of high grass and off shaved area ... also has a woman looper ... and they just moved to the bunker. EK Pedersen is also in the sand with coach ... Man Bun is not here (for now).
Only the right side of the range has fencing to stand behind for spectating ... you can get close to last two or three stations on the right, which is where I took a picture and video of The Kup Show. Never saw a range like this where driver balls hit and stick halfway up on a 45-degree incline ... hard to believe the collector cart goes up and down that slope (you can see the tracks). Meanwhile, The New Ko was behind me being put through an extensive bending and stretching routine with an elastic wrap by her physio guy (took a pic).
Back in action after lunch break ... The Zhangster and the Ice Cream Princess came up #18 with a big crowd ... The ECP (with Dave out front) playing with Gina Kim (coach is with her). Someone tell Haney that L. VU now has a bag to go with her Kingston Fury visor ... it's hot pink with black logo lettering ... but, still has a lot free space on her attire. Dewi Weber is with her at the 11th green.
Coming off the 6th green, Six was swarmed by six Koreans asking for autographs ... she has two Asian guys inside the ropes with, each with a fully-loaded backpack ... playing with Saso who has daddy inside the ropes (I think). Castren and Buhai at 14th green ... Castren coach squatting down behind ball as she putts. Some of the TV cameras are in operation ... maybe just testing ... it wouldn't surprise me if the LPGA does an All Access episode this week. Pretzel in a Callaway cap is driving around scouting the course with some grey-haired guy I didn't recognize.
No stupid boat for Tom Abbott this week ... just did another video special on the 2nd green. At the 3rd tee, Alexa Pano as a single hit a couple drives from two different spots ... the swing looked good, but boy, there was no spring in her step ... maybe she wasn't feeling well ... nothing but negative waves. Btw, the 2nd fairway (par 4) is narrow and uphill with a blocking junkyard bunker that will catch overly aggressive drives ... someone just hit into the crap, but she and her Ping bag are too far away to identify.
Shibuno Fever working up a sweat on the range with the driver and a 10-finger grip ... looks back at the launch monitor behind her target line after every swing. Not the best consistency in her ball flight ... I'm guessing her daddy is behind the fence. Meechai was nearby ... at one point, her coach manually guided her iron shaft to show her how to take it back.
Caught up with MHL as she teed off at #18. Don't know her coach, but he alternated between English and Korean. Soo Bin Joo was in this foursome and I think she employed the same coach. The other two players were Yu Liu and Vongtaveelap. Now at the range ... nice to see Yubol reviving the Fourteen Golf brand on this tour (including the bag) ... too far away to ID the iron model ... has Callaway woods.
It's 5:25 pm and most players are done for the day. Pedersen is the only one on the range, doing a good emulating the takeaway her coach wants her to do. He wears a team Denmark top. Now she's pounding the driver to near the top of the range. Looks like she's done and so am I.
