I am surprised that Mick Seaborn didn't jump on the bag of money-making golfer Ayaka Furue. I give her the same name as Chella Choi "Professional golfers". Never slack off plays every hole the same, the best of their ability.
The sisters have a lot of golfers in the mix, just hope that as usual they don't fade on the weekend.

Here's a guide to the mishaps in this three minute segment. I used to work for a small town TV station in New England decades ago. Anyways, the sports reporter at our station was definitely a guy who you would peg as a sports reporter if you know what I mean. But I was impressed with how diligently he made sure he got the small facts like spelling/pronunciation right. Even for things like high school girls' lacrosse, he'd make sure everything was correct. So it does not speak well of these bums that they are making dumb mistakes like this. Sheesh. Sad to say, there has been a huge decline in editing and quality control in all types of media, especially tv. Old joke: "Q: Now that you're doing your work using a computer, are you making fewer mistakes? A: No, but I sure can make them a lot faster!" I see even big city tv news full of misspelled graphics, caption not matching video, anchorpeople and reporters mispronouncing words and place names, etc.
Small town media is tough because there's a lot of turnover. New reporters show up from somewhere else with no connection to the area. The successful ones escape to bigger markets. In outstate Michigan, a lot of the personalities end up in the Detroit market, but I've seen them in places like Chicago, Cleveland, and Philadelphia too. (The term "outstate" means the same thing in Michigan that "upstate" means in New York and "downstate" means in Illinois. Every place else in the state outside of the one major metro area.)
A few media people decide to stay in the small market, maybe they marry a local person and end up staying to raise a family. Careerwise, they become a "big fish in a small pond." A great example of this is the long time sports anchor Tim Staudt in Lansing, Michigan. When the news broke in the early 90s that Magic Johnson was announcing his NBA retirement due to having HIV, the sports broadcaster who broke the story nationally was not from LA nor from major sports media like ESPN or Sports Illustrated. Magic trusted Staudt to cover the story fairly and without sensationalizing it. Staudt had a working connection with Magic from his days as a high school athlete in Lansing, then at MSU with the 1979 national champions.

After opening with 16 straight pars, Old Ryu pulled this one out of her butt with a birdie at the par-5 17th, which puts at the cut line of -2. I hope she doesn't have any hard putts at #9.

The local news finally got it right on the 5:00 and 6:00 sports! The edict must have gone out from station management to practice saying Furue's name. Both the live reporter and the sports anchor got it close enough to be acceptably correct. Maybe not an "A" but I'd grade their pronunciation a solid "B" compared to Thursday's "F." The live reporter did fumble it the very last time but he'd gotten it close at least two or three times before that.
In addition to straight coverage of some of the action and the leaderboard, the 6:00 segment focused on how international the leaderboard was. They seemed shocked that there was only one American-born golfer, Kupcho, in the top 11. (Fact check: Lindsey Weaver-Wright was born in Ohio, so there were actually two.) Remarked on how many languages were being spoken in the press tent. (Have these guys been watching LPGA recently, say, in the last two decades?) I'll post the link to the segment later in the evening when the station gets it online.

Phil, I had a positive feeling about So Yeon's game today as soon as I saw she was wearing "FUR-ooh" yellow! Ok, maybe a shade or two slightly less fluorescent than Ay-ah-KEE...

If I counted correctly, 14 of 18 sisters made the cut! Six made the cut! Five made the cut! "Anna Lynn" made the cut! 안나린

Did some random poking at the LPGA's history in Wikipedia ... samples of past events in Michigan:
1992-2000, Oldsmobile Classic at Walnut Hills CC in East Lansing ... Karrie won the last one at 23-under. 1978-79, Lady Stroh's Open at Dearborn CC 1955, 57, 60, 63, Wolverine Open ... three courses in Detroit area: Forest Lake CC, Lochmoor Club and Hillcrest Golf & CC. 1956, LPGA Championship at Forest Lake CC.

A birdie at her final hole put Ilhee Lee into the weekend. Wow, Ilhee made it on the final hole! I stand corrected, that's 15 out of 18!

Here's the promised video from the 6:00 sports segment. www.woodtv.com/video/meijer-lpga-classic-2nd-round/8742145/Sports director Jack Doles, after giving us "FUR-ooh" yesterday, does manage to blast out an acceptable though not quite perfect pronunciation at 0:47 and 0:56 in the video. At first I thought he had it right, but upon closer listening, he does barely slip in an unnecessary "D" sound into the surname to make it sound like "FOO-duh-ray." Live reporter Alex Giannakopoulos (He ought to appreciate the difficulty of trying to pronounce an unusual name!) looks down at his phone at 1:47 in the video to make sure he gets it right, starts, stops after a syllable or two to correct himself, then belts out a confident, "AYE-kee-yah FOO-duh-ray!" I cannot make this up! They even gave Amy Yang 14 seconds of air time beginning about 2:06! Now I felt bad for Giannakopoulos botching it in the 6:00 segment, because in the earlier 5:00 segment, he had nailed it or almost nailed it. Here's the 5:00 segment. www.woodtv.com/video/ashleigh-buhai-secures-second-lpga-victory/8741918/ At 0:43, Alex begins, "Day 2 of the Meijer LPGA Classic belonged to AYE-uh-ah-kuh FOO-doo-ray..." (So close, maybe I should have graded him a B+...) At 1:09, he repeats "FOO-doo-ray" again. So he did know how to pronounce it, more or less; his nerves must have gotten to him in the 6:00 segment.

One thing So Yeon Ryu is good at is making a birdie or two late to make the cut.

Nice day two for the Sisters! I actually watched the end; Hyo Joo looked like she had hosed everything up on the final hole but sunk a twenty foot par save to preserve her 65. Not bad! Now that she claims she is over the mysterious illness that was sapping her energy, let's see if she can make something happen this weekend. Meanwhile, four gals at 7 under and Amy just a shot back. Sisters hwaiting! P.S. Nice try for In Gee. She missed the cut, but at least she had a much better day today than yesterday. Hopefully she shook the rust off in time for next week!

Yes, HF, a great day and a great tournament so far for the sisters. Did any other country have 83% of its golfers make the cut? Amy getting a lot of attention from the local media, maybe they like her hat? But they can't ignore her golf!
