The Kawana Resort/Fuji course is still ranked #2 in Japan on the top-100 golf course website ... if the LPGA ever launches an "Asian Major", they'll need to put this course on a frequent rotation for it.
The tourney starts Friday for a field of 108 ... top-50 plus ties make the cut. Plenty of broadcasting (Japan time) -
[Terrestrial] ■Fuji TV network of 28 stations nationwide April 22 (Sat) 15:30-16:25 (LIVE) April 23 (Sun) 13:00-13:35 (LIVE) *Kanto Local/13:35-15:00 (LIVE)
[BS broadcasting] ■ BS Fuji April 21 (Fri) 15:00-16:00 (LIVE) April 22 (Sat) 12:00-15:25 (LIVE) / 21:00-21:55 (recording) April 23 (Sun) 9:30-13:35 (LIVE) / 14:59-16:00 (LIVE)

Monday qualifiers on the JLPGA are infrequent, but bring in more players compared to the LPGA ... 11 players made the cut from a field of 62. Winless old-timer Megumi Shinokawa (turns 40 next month) topped the list.

I better begin my beauty nap in a few minutes ... starting at 11 PM my time, it's 4 hours and 25 minutes of streaming a venue that won't remind me of a Texas swamp. Interesting that they have all 36 threesomes starting from the first hole ... Friday's leaders are bunched in between 11 AM and 11:40 AM (Japan time) so they can dominate the broadcast window ... the only "problem" is that most of them are not particularly popular or well-known.
*******
I hadn't noticed before, but her Exalted Highness Princess Mary Superal showed up this week ... and tripped on her red carpet ... +2 on Friday and +3 overall thru 11 holes on Saturday. However, the current cut line is +2, so she might make it.

Chip-in birdie at #2 by Na Ri Lee.

Yui Kawamoto is really having a hard time playing good golf. Another missed cuts.

The cut was +4 and 54 players made it. The particular stream I watched was focused on the last six holes only, so it would take a while to see the leaders if they interested you. Didn't see much since I kept nodding off ... there's an edited replay at 8 AM my time.

I was awake long enough to see defending champ Sayaka Takahashi roar back into contention and finish with a birdie at 18 (below). She changed the color of her putter (same model) from silver to black three weeks ago and had to use it only 23 times on Saturday. Seven-under isn't too shabby considering she said she hit driver on the heel often.
Yuri Yoshida (+1)
Haruka Kawasaki (MC) ... nice suspenders
Hinako Deux (+3) ... her win was no fluke, now five-for-five in cuts made
Yuka Yasuda
The Unknown Korean (+3)

This morning's broadcast was focused on the last three holes ... the resort could put in ski lifts if Japan loses interest in golf.
Yuka Yasuda at the par-5 16th, I think ... her pic in my earlier post was from the par-3 17th hole ... her approach into the par-4 18th rolled over the green and left her short-sided with a slightly downhill lie in the sand. Not a lot of danger off the tee, but the bunkers around these greens are brutal.

The broadcast just started ... only the top-3 groups are waiting to tee at #1 ... maybe I'll see the whole golf course in this segment.

The last broadcast window had the winner's interview and award presentation ... based on what I saw during the first ten holes, I didn't think Sora Kamiya would make it.

A first-time winner appeared to be in the works, but which one? Yuka Yasuda went into a tie for first at #12 which is when I stopped watching ... figured her experience would finally carry her to the finish line, but she blew it with bogeys on the last two holes. Reika Arakawa was in a position to force a playoff, but she bogeyed the last hole.

Hit numerous wild tee shots on the first 11 holes, but obviously she plugged up that leak.
Low am was Reika Miyako (+5) ... haven't found a pic of her trophy, which wasn't much bigger than a shot glass with a stem.
SW Bae
Yuka Yasuda
Sakura Koiwai (+2)
Momoko Ueda
I missed this earlier ... Kotoko Uchida aced #9 on Saturday which got her a prize on Sunday. She finished at +8.
