Yeah, I'm rooting for SBS. Not only do they provide a ton of coverage and the English language stream, they also create other programs to feature these ladies. I mean, a LOT of these programs. I worry that if some non-golf network gets the rights, all that stuff will go away.
In fact, a commitment to number of hours of coverage/week seems like a prerequisite for getting these rights. A non-golf sports network might not be willing to pony up airtime like a dedicated golf channel would.

I assumed SBS Golf, many sponsors, and the KLPGA grew up together as children so in that sense aren't they all in this together? I don't know how truly independent these groups really are from each other. If SBS is making more money these days, maybe they can afford to pay more for the rights without hitting the sponsors too hard. I don't know.

Obviously, leaving SBS Golf would be a disaster for bums like me who watch the KLPGA on AQ Stream (which does NOT work for any of the JTBC channels listed on that platform).
The hell with JTBC Golf and their complaints ... based upon what I see on their website, they have at least two channels covering the LPGA tour, the PGA tour and some of the KPGA tour. How much more do they need? The KLPGA has had dedicated and extended LIVE time slots with SBS Golf for years ... do you really want to walk away from them?

The decision has been made, SBS Golf gets the rights for the next five years with a score of 93 over JTBC at 83.6 out of 100 It seems that the KLPGA reduced the percentage that the rights fee was to the overall score to 35% as opposed to previously being at 65% (Sneaky) You would think money would trump everything as JTBC bid 50 Billion Won USD36 Million over 5 years but still couldn't win. The JLPGA has been dealing with this issue for a few years now and are clearly learning some lessons from the KLPGA as they signed a hefty deal with Golf TV worth millions. They are heading for a showdown as well with the TV networks in the next few weeks as those up for re-signing there title sponsorship have to make decision by the end of August.

I saw the bit about five years in the news, but not the actual bids. What did SBS bid? I don't understand what the "scores" you mention are?

I can't find anywhere what SBS bid but I would assume it would be pretty much the same.. As for the scores, apparently they had a 12 member jury of which 4 were external deciding the outcome, not sure how they allocated the 100 points to come to a decision but it's quite clear that the KLPGA had a preferred bidder and I can see why JTBC was annoyed.

Also interesting that the Ina Yoon decision did not happen until after this was over (still hasn't happened for the KLPGA, but even the suspension from the Korea Women's Open could have affected the broadcast revenue for that one event). Hmmmm.... I wonder if it would have affected their payout if they had given their biggest new star a huge penalty while they were in the midst of negotiations?
