Song Kang Ho became the second Korean to win an acting prize at Cannes by collecting the Best Actor award for his performance in the new Kore-eda film Broker. Can't think of anyone who deserves an award like this more! Oscar next?
I actually attended a showing of one of Park's movies at the Seattle Film Festival back in the day. IIRC it was Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. Anyways, Park was there and answered questions after the film, several of which asked him why it was so violent (he had won an award the year before for the still-violent-but-not-like-Mr.-Vengeance Joint Security Area, so a bunch of the people who showed up were probably as shocked as I was about the uptick in intensity). After that, I've only occasionally watched one of his flicks; I don't have the stomach for it anymore.
