USA vs. Great Britain & Ireland ... most of last year's faces from Wales are coming to Merion GC on June 10 thru 12 ... it feels like a re-match ... but I expect the result to be the same. Home page:
I'm doing a butt-buster odyssey, hitting The Curtis Cup and Shoprite/Acer in the same weekend. It will be my second Curtis Cup since seeing the singles round in 1990 at Somerset Hills CC.
*******
It will be my second visit to Merion GC. The first was for the 1989 finals of the U.S. Amateur Championship where Chris Patton knocked off Danny Green, 3 & 1. USGA article:
It cost $50 for a weekly grounds pass, but I only wanted to attend for one day ... I talked to the ticket lady on the phone, hoping I could get a break, but no dice, and I guess they weren't selling same-day gate tickets, so I had to pay the fifty ... I rationalized it as being a historic event.
I arrived there really early and by the time I returned home, I watched it again on ABC which showed it on tape at 4:30 PM EST.
I smuggled in a cheap little 35mm camera and took a few pics after the action.
Set A - Bob Rosburg (red cap) interviewing Patton; First tee box outside clubhouse; one of the "white faces" of Merion.
Set B - Scoreboard; Chris Patton; "famous" 11th hole.
Set C - Chris Patton w/ trophy; Grounds pass; Parking pass.

In other news (above), the 2030 Curtis Cup will be played at National Golf Links of American in Southampton, NY (June 7 -9). These guys are killing me ... it's right next door to Sebonack, which was a brutal trip to make for the 2013 USWO.

Only on SeoulSisters would someone complain about the Curtis Cup at NGLA because it’s a pain to get to.

I didn't see what happened Friday, but Saturday was a big disappointment for GB&I ... they took a lead in all their matches, but ran out of gas in most of them. This tournament ended at lunchtime ... GB&I needed a 3-0 sweep in the morning to have any chance of winning, but came away with only one win. Tomorrow's singles matches (moved up to 7:30 AM to avoid bad weather) are just a formality.
Pic 1 - Jensen Castle just before she holes lengthy left-to-right breaker at #11 to win the hole during Sat. AM four-ball match. She is a really good putter ... even her long twisty putts that don't go in are close misses.
Pic 2 - The Zhangster and Heck on the range before their Sat. PM foursome match.

Cool.
These sort of events between the US and Europe are fine, especially on the men's side, but shouldn't there be an event similar to the Rider Cup between the US and Korean ladies?

Fortunately, I was long gone when the really bad weather arrived on Sunday ... although I had an umbrella propped over my head for much of Saturday, which had a light, constant spritz for a few hours which did not affect play ... this is the par-4 16th hole.
Each team had two alternates ... I assume they were there, somewhere ... Anna Davis is well-known these days, but I didn't see her on Saturday. The people who were noticeable were the college coaches (LSU, Ohio State, Southern Cal and Florida for sure) affiliated with players on both sides.
Shoprite/Acer washout Mina Harigae dropped by on Sunday.
