I vaguely recall this is some sort of special format; they announced it a few months ago. My dim recollection is that it's a pro-am kind of thing where the pros play with celebs all week, kind of like that thing in Florida. I'll see if I can dig up more info, I might be remembering incorrectly...

 I think this event works like this: The field is reduced as normal via cut to 60 players after two rounds. At this point, teams are created consisting of two pros and one celebrity. They play a best ball to produce a team score for each hole, with the lowest scoring team winning. There are eight designated 'handicap' holes where the celebrity gets an additional one stroke off their hole score, so it's possible they might actually use the celeb score every once in a while. Celebrity earnings go to charity. In addition, there is also a pro winner like at a normal KLPGA event, by simply adding the total scores for each pro. I imagine it's pretty distracting for the pros, which probably explains the high rate of players skipping this week. We'll see how it goes! |

I'd skip the event too to go practice at 포천아도니스 and the major at 블루헤런. Surely pros are allowed at these places for practice rounds.

Hee Jeong Lim had a really good ball striking round.
She didn't miss any greens except for a couple just on two fringes.
Her putting still isn't there yet.
She made two long putts for birdie and two others.
But made two three putt bogeys after hitting her birdie putt ten feet past the hole.
Hye Jin Choi seemed like she was going to have a great round.
It looked like her old self on the front nine.
She had four birdies inside of twelve feet and two birdie lip outs.
But only managed one birdie and one bogey after that.
Jae Hee Lee had a great front nine.
But like others has before her a bad back nine.
With a triple bogey and a bogey back nine.
Ha Na Jang had one of those very unlike her rounds.
She had no birdies and one bogey and showed some frustration.

No pix of Jae Hee Kim, which is weird; she's usually a popular subject.
Once we have the leaderboard for tomorrow, it will be interesting to see how things shake out. Will the teams be made based on position on the leaderboard? Will they be random? Will the celebs have a say? If the teams are not based on position, we could end up with the leaders not being in the final groups, which is highly unusual. And if they are, you might see the two players who are having the best week in the same group, which seems unfair.
The other question is, will the celebs help or hurt the players? This might be a good week for someone like Ayean Cho or Ga Young Lee to break through; perhaps their rivals will be distracted, and the weird circumstances might relax a player looking to get a win who hasn't won before or in a long time?

What would help Ga Young Lee is to not hit into three straight bunkers. All three swings looked the same, blocked into the right bunker. She did save par out of one of them and played ok after that. |
