This week is the first Major of the KLPGA season, the Korean Women's Open. It is almost without question the most prestigious event of the KLPGA season. The defending champ is Hyo Joo Kim, and she'll be back to play! She'll be going against In Gee Chun, coming off a win in her last start (and 2013 Open winner), and Jung Min Lee, coming off two straight wins. This could be a classic battle!
The action starts Thursday!

Round 1: Ahn in the Lead
Round 1 started with a potential showdown between three stars: Jung Min Lee, who has won her last two starts but skipped last week; In Gee Chun, the 2013 champ, who won last week; and Hyo Joo Kim, now one of the top LPGA rookies and the defending champion. But right away, things went south for Lee. Playing in the morning, she shot a 76. Chun was paired with Kim and another former champ, Soo Jin Yang, in the afternoon. She struggled the whole day, perhaps intimidated by playing again with her old friend. She shot a 7 over par 79 and is in danger of missing the cut. It was easily the worst round she has shot all year. Yang and Kim, meanwhile, had decent days, both shooting one over par. The leader at the end of the day was a surprise: Shin Ae Ahn. Ahn, coming off recent injuries, shot a 2 under par 70. Two amateurs, including top amateur star So Young Lee, leading rookie Ji Young Park, and returning player Ju Young Park were the other players under par; they shot 71s. Among the others who struggled were Min Sun Kim, who shot a 78, and Bo Kyung Kim, who shot a 79. Three more days! Scores: 1. Shin Ae Ahn 70 -2 2. Ju Young Park, So Young Lee (A), Ye Jin Choi (A), Ji Young Park (R) 71 -1 Notables: 6. Song Yi Ahn, Ji Hee Kim, Ji Hyun Kim 2 72 Even 13. I clicked on the leaderboard link of the KLGPA site and it directed me to the Korean Golf Association...where I couldn't find it! But I figured something good happened with Sharon as her picture was the first to pop up. Highlight video of her shots: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CcmaqI3F0cYeah, the slacks look from 2010...it's all falling into place...where's that trophy?

Maybe the USGA, The PGA of Merica and others LPGA event committees can contact the KGA to learn how to set-up a course to obtain lousy scores for a major as it should be. Dustin's shaming Mike Davis so far with a -6.....lol.
Holy Moly...Sharon and Ju Young Park on the leaderboard....luv The Mini Rocket.....and JYP is returning for the Walmart next week too. I'll have to fanboy The Mini Rocket in Van City....hopefully she give me some free stuff like Phil's fanboying of MHL. I hope Golf Canada pairs HYP & JYP so it doubles the viewing pleasure.
I fully expect HJK to be the leader soon....maybe after 36 or 54 holes?

(More round 1 pix below) Shin Ae started out day two poorly, she's +2 after five holes currently... I located an English language leaderboard for you all. You're welcome! Korean Women's OpenOh, and In Gee Chun is 5' 9" tall more or less. Sung Woon Lee from round 1 Jae Eun Jung's in the field I think both Soo Jin and Hyo Joo are well positioned. They are +1, two shots out of the lead, a small way into their second rounds.

Round 2: Three Players Remain under Par
Round 2 continued to be challenging for the ladies. In Gee Chun, starting at 7 over par, shot a 73 on Friday, which moved her from 94th into the top 40. Hyo Joo Kim had a good day, a second straight 73. She is at 2 over and is in the hunt. Their third playing partner, Soo Jin Yang, had the best day of all. She produced a 70 and is one of only three players still under par at 1 under. But the leaders are a pair of lesser knowns: Sung Hyun Park, a second year player, and Ye Jin Kim. Kim shot a 70 and Park a 69 in round 2, and both are tied at 3 under. First round leader Shin Ae Ahn struggled to a 77 and now sits tied for 11th. Top amateur So Young Lee started the day one shot out of the lead, but she shot an 81 and fell all the way to 37th. Two more days! Scores: 1. Sung Hyun Park 69, Ye Jin Kim 70 -3 3. Soo Jin Yang 70 -1 4. So Young Kim 2 70, Min Sung Ha 70, Jin Young Ko 72 +1 Notables: 7. Ji Young Park (R) 75, Hyo Joo Kim 73, Char Young Kim 73 +2 11. Shin Ae Ahn 77, Jung Eun Lee 5 73 +3 13. Round 3: Park Takes Big Lead
Heavy rain delayed the event during this round, but they still managed to get everything finished. Sung Hyun Park, already a co-leader after round 2, continued her great play, shooting a 70 in round 3 to take a five shot lead going into the final day. Park has never won before, but will have an awesome opportunity to change that tomorrow on her tour's biggest stage. She will have challenges. In second place is Jung Min Lee. Coming off two straight wins, Lee shot the round of the week, a 4 under par 68, to move to 1 over and solo second. In third is glamor girl Shin Ae Ahn, who rallied from her second round 77 to shoot a 71 and move to solo third at 2 over. In Gee Chun also shot a nice round, a 70, to move into the top ten, albeit 10 shots behind the leader. Hyo Joo Kim struggled, producing a 76 that knocked her into a tie with Chun and a tough spot if she wants to defend her title. One more day! Scores: 1. Sung Hyun Park 70 -4 2. Jung Min Lee 68 +1 3. Shin Ae Ahn 70 +2 4. Soo Jin Yang 77, So Young Kim 2 75, Ye Jin Kim 78, Min Sung Ha 75 +4 Notables: 8. Hye Jin Choi (A) 75 +5 10. Sung Hyung Park better bring her "A" game, even with the big lead. Jung Min Lee has shown that she is a closer. Good tournament thus far by Shin Aie. Hope she finishes strong as well.
