All of last week's sprained ankles and upset tummies will be magically healed this week, courtesy of a ¥120,000,000 payout in the first Major of 2021. The action starts Thursday for a field of 132, top-60 plus ties make the cut and no-gallery crap again. During past seasons, this event would invite a couple of BIG international names ... no so such luck this year, after all, who wants a two-week jail sentence as soon as you step off the plane?
Regular LIVE broadcast for the weekend (Japan time) -
Sat. 3:30 PM Sun. 3:00 PM

The Japan version of HULU will carry all four rounds, but it would probably be easier to search on YouTube:

I didn't know they had "punishment" in Japan ... Shibuno Fever will be docked ¥1,000,000 (about $9,150 USD) for not defending her 2019 championship.

Solar Lee is getting another start on the JLPGA Tour. I decided to see how she has done with her previous starts. She is ranked 144 on the Money List, one better than Natsuka Hori's 145. Natsuka I believe has only one or two starts. Solar Lee has sure wasted those starts.

There is a 1st round broadcast on YT in four parts, each about 30 minutes long ... Part One -
The course is set at 6,630 yards and only 30 of 132 players broke par, which would prompt a pity party by the U.S. GIC.

Solar (75) inched out of the basement ... to 130th place. The cut was +2 and 69 players made it.
POS PLAYER SCORE TODAY 1R 2R 3R 4R TOTAL 1 Sayaka Takahashi -9 -7 70 65 135 2T Ai Suzuki -8 -5 69 67 136 2T Momoko Ueda -8 -7 71 65 136 2T Mao Saigo -8 -4 68 68 136 2T Reika Usui -8 -5 69 67 136 6T Ritsuko Ryu -6 0 66 72 138 6T Momoko Osato -6 -1 67 71 138 6T Eri Okayama -6 -5 71 67 138 6T Yuna Nishimura -6 -3 69 69 138 6T Chae-Young Yoon -6 -5 71 67 138 6T Karen Tsuruoka -6 -4 70 68 138 6T Kumiko Kaneda -6 -3 69 69 138
Sayaka Takahashi ... try not to blow it again
Sakura Koiwai (-1)
Chae Young Yoon
Reika Usui describes a two-way miss, which is definitely NOT afflicting her game.
Asako Fujimoto (MC)
Ritsuko Ryu ... I'll have a vanilla waffle cone with sprinkles
Momoko Osato playing like she has unfinished business from last week
The Unknown Korean (+2) was called up from the minor minor leagues, where she is still the top money leader for 2020-21.

The Koreans are on a cold streak ... haven't won in Japan since the 2020 Toto Japan last November.
NTV has been quick to take down the rogue videos, so check out part of Saturday's regular broadcast below soon ... I would pay particular attention starting at 6:49, the par-4 16th hole which has a typical Japanese feature: a tree in the middle of the fairway. Kudos to the threesome of Suzuki/Takahashi/Ueda for skillfully working their approaches around the tree. I don't think I ever saw Suzuki play a cut before.
POS PLAYER SCORE HOLE TODAY 1R 2R 3R 4R TOTAL 1 Sayaka Takahashi -12 F -3 70 65 69 204 2T Yuna Nishimura -9 F -3 69 69 69 207 2T Momoko Osato -9 F -3 67 71 69 207 2T Mao Saigo -9 F -1 68 68 71 207 5T Momoko Ueda -8 F 0 71 65 72 208 5T Eri Okayama -8 F -2 71 67 70 208 5T Ritsuko Ryu -8 F -2 66 72 70 208 5T Reika Usui -8 F 0 69 67 72 208 9T Nana Yamashiro -7 F -4 74 67 68 209 9T Kumiko Kaneda -7 F -1 69 69 71 209 9T Chae-Young Yoon -7 F -1 71 67 71 209 12 Ai Suzuki -6 F +2 69 67 74 210
No bogeys Saturday for Sayaka Takahashi. Is the law of averages a myth? That rice ball won't get stuck in her windpipe again on Sunday, right?
Bo Mee Lee (E)
I can't find a WITB for Reika Usui ... she uses Srixon irons, but this looks like a Fourteen Golf wedge.
Eri Okayama and a Japanese rat snake
Saku-chan (-2) might be in the tournament if she hadn't five-putted the 17th green on Thursday.
It was overcast, but Hina Arakaki (-5) isn't taking chances.
Mone Inami (-5) ... with one of the few loopers NOT performing "theatre" (say that word with a William F. Buckley accent) by wearing a mask on the course. This guy might be the one who was on Erina Hara's bag a few years ago.

I don't know why they do two trophies at this tourney, but it's a memorable sight.
Hana Wakimoto (+6) deserved a T-58 in her PJs
Another check for Eight Head ... she is not too old to win here, but when will it happen? That driver is a mystery to me ... Japan's Yamaha site still lists her as a staffer, but I see no drivers there looking like this one.
Sayaka Takahashi's water went down the wrong way.
Reika Usui was such a hustler at the par-5 18th ... drive into the left trees, third shot into right greenside bunker, so-so bunker shot and long par putt sunk for a five.
Ji Hee Lee (+6)
Momoko Osato
Erika Hara (+5) contemplating the SS Feng training program
