So Haruka Morita-WanyaoLu won on the Symetra Tour last week. Anyone know anything about this lady? I researched all I could, but all I could find was that she won the Japanese amateur and played on the JLPGA a few times. She currently represents China. Did she defect to China? Why the hyphenated name? She fascinates me, but I know nothing about her!

I seem to recall Phil mentioning her, but I don't think he knows her story, either.

You would think the LPGA would profile her after her victory. Nope. That's what I get for expecting anything.

"Morita-WanyaoLu is Chinese-Japanese, hence, the origin of her lengthy name – Haruka Morita is her Japanese name and Wanyao Lu her Chinese moniker. She still plays under the Chinese flag because she cannot become a naturalized Japanese citizen until age 21 even though she was born in Japan and her first language is Japanese."If she marries a Korean guy she'll have the most fans of anyone in Women's Golf. Seriously, though - is it true that a Japanese person who isn't ethnically Japanese cannot be considered Japanese until he/she is an adult? Even if that person was born there? That's sort of sad if true.

There are parts of Asian culture I love, and parts that I hate. Consider this a part that I hate.
I'm assuming she'll just be known as Haruka Morita when she turns 21. It will be interesting next year, because it looks like she's on the fast track to the LPGA Tour, and I can already see the Golf Channel commentator try to explain this one.

She has qualified for the USWO as medalist at the New Smyrna Beach sectional on Friday.
