Holy crap, Sky machine-gunned the back nine with five birdies and leads by one shot.
Someone set up a Round One broadcast on YouTube for Midnight EST ... so I'll start with the KLPGA for three hours, then cut over the JWO for who knows how long ... I might go to bed when it's time to get up.

At 300% magnification, it appears that SY Ryu (far right) was toasted at the champions dinner.
Come on now, she looks mostly sober to me.

I guess I will have to leave the Hana Financial. YouTube works for me so I will be following So Yeon group. Are these fans skipping work, it looks like the weekend.

Technology is great...I have a side-by-side JLPGA and KLPGA broadcast on my PC. I'm going with the JLPGA sound (like it really matters).
They interviewed Ryu after her round ... it was her first time playing with Shibuno and she was impressed by her long game.

Nice start by So Yeon, Seon Woo, and especially Ha Neul! Great to see her on the leaderboard. Good luck the rest of the week, ladies!

So Yeon really had to work hard for her no bogey, four birdie round. She made some great pars after errant drives. She showed great determination to not make any bogeys. She could have joined Hinako and Nasa at minus five. But she missed about a four foot birdie putt on par five eighteen. It was great to see the smile back on her face, late in the round. I really hope that she keep it there today.
Hinako Shibuno continue to impress me, with her golf game. After making a loose double bogey on par five six. No problem, she made birdie on hole seven. Then holed out for birdie on eight from the bunker. Hit a three wood on nine and ended up with a big tree in front of her. Hit the tree with her second shot and made bogey. After that no more three woods, only driver off the tee. She also missed a short birdie putt on eighteen.
Nasa was just solid, hitting fairways and greens. Making lots of birdies.
My hat's off to USC Gabriele Ruffels. She had four early bogeys. But made birdie on three of the last four holes, to finish plus one. It gave her a legitimate chance to make the cut.

Phooey, Solar Lee dropped out after Round One...shooting 77 on Thursday didn't help her cause.
*********
Japan's first Arnold Palmer...wears a skirt. They are ding-dong crazy ... I love it.

Great round by So Yeon, minus six today. Minus ten for the tournament.

I think the first wave groups caught a break, because the second wave is hearing the wind rustle the trees and whip the flags. The cut line is still Even, but it could still slip to +1.
The NHK-G just started up with broadcast, but is constantly freezing and impossible to watch. There are various YouTube posts set up, but they keep ending unexpectedly, so I'm giving up this AM.
Ryu's 66 should hold up as the low round of Friday.

The cut was Even and 61 players made it.

Sky Kim and NASA
Yuka Yasuda (-1), one of six ams (out of 23) who made the cut.
Ji Hee Lee (-1)
Momoko Osato has bristled in articles about the "Shibuno friend" prefix constantly being attached to her name ... sees it as a ding against her individuality. The way she's playing, the media might be putting an "Osato friend" prefix on Shibuno's name on Sunday.

When I first went over to YouTube, they showed early highlights of So Yeon group. I can't find it now, but they do have full second round posted.
Gabriele Ruffels came close to making the cut by two shots. That better than the last time. Kotone Hori was a wasted spot.

I didn't know until now that Japan's Golf Network is showing the 1st hole (par-5, 558 yards) and driving range here:
Maria Shinohara went out as a single to begin the 3rd round. Everyone else is going out in pairs...no split tees.

They are showing the first hole on YouTube. Bo-Mee is teeing off. Big crowd even on the driving range.
