The article seem to imply that only Korean parents push their children, to work hard. Does she have first hand knowledge, or is she just assuming that it's true.

Happy How do you find these articles? Good read on Minjee.
So the last 3 women #1 Am's have had the backing of their country's national golf programs....Brooke, Minjee & Lydia. This is an advantage...where the US is so large and fragmented where money and coaching isn't funneled directly to their elite. I know a member from another site who knows a world ranked Am from Massachusetts who can't travel to as many events because she comes from a working class family with limited disposable income.
With so many Korean here...I've seen this fawning of the parents over their kid's golf. Both parents following (not playing) their kids over 18 holes...no not a tournament. Shagging their kids practice balls. Sitting around the driving range watching their kids hit balls for hours. The craziest was when a 10 year old boy was playing with likely his grandparents....his mom was riding with him and she was teeing the ball for her son...that was laughable.
With the expense of golf in S. Korea...it's no surprise most golf is played at the range....I believe this occurs in Japan too.....screen golf is very popular in S. Korea....they even have screen golf tournaments that are on SBS or JGolf...it's hilarious.
The Koreans go crazy here to play golf because it's so cheap for them. The women will even play in the rain. I played with a women last Sunday and again this Sunday that is on a 3 month visit...she tries to play as frequently as possible.
