This is the third tournament in four starts that In Gee has led after two rounds. She won one of them and lost the other to Min Sun Kim. It will be interesting to see how she does here, her first time in Japan I think. Meanwhile, Bo Mee Lee is in second. Will she be able to break the runner up jinx, as the Korean press is calling it? Alas, Ha Neul won't be around on the weekend... Go Sisters!!!

It could not have started better. Chun was ahead by three at -11, but Bo Mee Lee had just birdied #12. Then she rolled in a birdie from off the green at #13. Then she rolled in a bomb at #14 to put her at -10, one stroke back. Then it happened at the par-5 15th hole. Smile Candy must have gotten a huge sugar rush to the brain...transformed herself into Phil Mikkelson. Such a change starts with a tee ball into the right woods. For her 2nd shot, she had three choices: 1. Punch out to fairway directly left; 2. Punch out between two trees a little further ahead, but still leaves a long 3rd; 3. Fire between two trees much further ahead, but directly at the hole. I would have been satisfied with choices 1 or 2, but NOOOOOOOO, Phil M. would never do that. She pulls out what looks like a 3W and chokes down one or two inches, as the ball was above her feet. Why didn't her dumb a$$ caddy throw a net over her at this point? You can guess the rest...right after impact is the unmistakeable sound of wood. She had the same distance (or maybe more) for her third shot, but at least she was near the right edge of the fairway. The horror continued as she pulled or hooked the ball dead left deep into the trees. She stumbled her way to the green with a double bogey and followed it up with a bogey at #16. At least Bo Mee Lee looks good playing bad Erika Kikuchi (75, -1 overall) was lousy and received little TV time Jae Eun Chung

No kidding! I was hoping for at least a little more variety than what we get from the golf channel's lpga brodcasts...but I think they showed the feature group walking to their balls for more total time than they showed all other players combined! Oh well, I saw 1.8 seconds of IK And there's that, which is nice. I have not followed the klpga enough to know how solid In Gee Chun has been at holding the final round lead, but this one looks to be done.

more pics on my blog: In-Gee Chun Wins World Ladies Championship Salonpas Cup, Takes Major Title In First Ever JLPGA EventIn-Gee ChunSouth Korea’s In-Gee Chun is presently a college student in addition to being a professional golfer. Fittingly, she took the field to school at the 2015 World Ladies Championship Salonpas Cup in her first ever LPGA of Japan (JLPGA) event, establishing a 5 shot lead after 3 rounds at 13-under and cruising to a 4-shot victory at 12-under after 72 holes. The 20-year old Chun becomes the youngest winner of the initial Major of the Japanese tour’s season. She earns the 24,000,000 Japanese Yen (about 200,368 USD) winner’s share. This is not the first time In-Gee has made a Major her first tour victory. Her maiden victory on her home LPGA of Korea (KLPGA) tour was the 2013 Korea Women’s Open. Overall, she’s won 5 times and counting on the KLPGA, including this April’s Samchully Together Open. Chun also finished 2nd at the LPGA/KLPGA co-sanctioned KEB HanaBank Championship in 2014. I am very pleased to see In-Gee have this kind of success. In a way, I could make the argument that despite her KLPGA Major and five overall wins back home, she’s been overshadowed by Hyo-Joo Kim. They both had rookie years together with Hyo-Joo taking Rookie of the Year. Kim also has 8 KLPGA victories, not to mention 2 LPGA wins, including an LPGA Major victory at the 2014 Evian Championship. So today is about In-Gee Chun and her moment to step into the spotlight and be celebrated. Clearly, Chun seems destined for continued success regardless of the tour on which she decides to ply her trade. Jessica KordaThe Salonpas Cup has attracted a number of players from other tours over the years. There is a long list of LPGA players who have moonlighted their way to wins at this JLPGA event dating back to Jane Blalock in 1975 and 1976. More recent winners since 2000 include Annika Sorenstam, Karrie Webb and Morgan Pressel. This year’s top current LPGA finisher was Jessica Korda, a 3-time winner on her home tour. Korda tied for 4th at 3-under, 9 shots behind Chun. Other current LPGA players who made the trip to Ibaraki included In-Kyung Kim, who finished tied for 12th at even par, and Ai Miyazato (who started her career on the JLPGA), who missed the cut at 5-over. 1 IN-GEE CHUN (-12) 2 MOMOKO UEDA (-8) 3 BO-MEE LEE (-4) T4 JESSICA KORDA (-3) T4 SERENA AOKI (-3) T4 AKANE IIJIMA (-3) T4 YUKO MITSUKA

Congrats to Chun. Assuming hse doesn't get home sick....I expect Dumbo to be playing on the LPGA in 2016.
Nice galleries....even the event in Korea had very respectable galleries. Asia should have 2 majors.
Whan...shut it down in the Merica and move all LPGA events and operations to the Pac Rim....it's over. Yanks have no interest in women's golf...yet on the men's side....it's evident there's no lack of interest....e.g.) The Player's Championship galleries. What a great finish....Fowler basically said....FO to any peers that might have said he's over rated.....lol.

I read an interview last night where In Gee said she is still planning on going to the LPGA next year, despite the JLPGA card she now has within her grasp; she's hoping she can get in by winning one of the events she's playing later this year (at this point, mostly Majors + the Hana Bank).
Interesting that in both of Jin Young Ko's KLPGA wins, In Gee was not in the field (she dropped out of the first win due to illness, and was in Japan this week). Should be great when they go toe to toe again!

There is no question the LPGA will ultimately be headquartered in Asian unless the white players can somehow learn to play. The US will have a couple of satellite events and that will probably suffice. Could you imagine if the PGA tour was dominated by Koreans? There would be lynch mobs everywhere.

Hmmmm.....the NFL and NBA are dominated by the blacks and you white boys still watch....lol. In a way I'm glad the Koreans aren't dominating the PGA....Koreans are already nut bars for golf....if the Korean men dominated....I'd never get a tee time here and my green fees would 10 fold increase......sometime I think I'm playing in the Seoul Amateur at many of the course here....soon they'll be promoting a $7 kimchi hot dog and Coke special at the turn....lol
