Shinobu Moromizato at her arrival in Okinawa. She finished 3rd last year, but finished no better than T-23 after that, which included 16 trunk slams...has limited status for 2019.

Hee Kyeong Bae's stuff arrived at the airport...looks like Sky Kim in the background. https://www.instagram.com/p/Buh_to5FZmp Eight Head turns 32 (!) on Tuesday, but Hee Kyeong Bae couldn't wait that long.

Tuesday practice:
Smile or no smile, Bo Mee is lookin' pretty good. That's her first new bag for 2019...she usually gets at least two per season. Maybe all the old ones end up in the BML museum.
Despite her two-season slump, she has not canned her long-time coach Bum Jo.
A new greens weapon for Momoko Ueda?
Seon Woo Bae, Hee Kyeong Bae, and Eri Okayama
Yamaha's latest staffer, Kana Nagai...meanwhile, it appears that Yamaha dumped Shiho Oyama (or vice-versa)...bet against the old lady at your peril.
Team LPGA - Nasa & Ayako
Teresa Lu and Ayaka Matsumori
Team Srixon (Hina/Sakura/Minami), Rei Matsuda and Kotone Hori
Shiho is the center of attention, even with two players who have more wins than her, Big Mama Ahn and Yuri Fudoh.
Dress-up night:
Team Yamaha - Chie Arimura and Kana Nagai (celebrating the JLPGA's first season of 1968)
Frequent duo Serena Aoki and Misuzu Narita
SW Bae
Oyama, Suzuki and Hwang

In comparative terms, women's pro golf in the U.S. is a joke. EXHIBIT 'A' - Ryuku GC is on the tiny island of Okinawa, which is so far off the beaten path that it takes a ferry almost 24 hours to get there from Kagoshima. Yet, this event has SEVEN gear vans on the premises. https://www.instagram.com/p/BuoSU0xFeyE ******* They have three nine-hole courses there...each is between 3235 and 3289 yards. ******* Early Wed AM - I hope it wasn't the pro-am day...Erina Hara, Chie Arimura, Miki Saiki and Mamiko Higa waiting it out. Apparently, it cleared up so the players could hit the range...I thought I had seen every golf gadget on tour, but never a string of green balls hanging down from the bill of a cap, WTH (Kotone Hori).

Nasa (+1)
Sakura Koiwai
Rei Matsuda picked up the ¥1,000,000 prize for lowest 1st round score
Bo Mee Lee (E)
Fishing nut Rumi Yoshiba (+3) should be more motivated this week...although maybe this boat isn't designed for fishing.
Kaori Ohe (+8, DFL)
Ha Neul Kim (+4) and Shiho Oyama (E) back with her old looper Dana...I don't know if this a one-week loan-out from Nasa or a permanent change.

Kotone Hori didn't take advantage of her chance to play in a tournament, +6. Maybe the lesson hasn't kicked in yet, but she wont have many chances to play this year. I hope that she can at least finish strong.

The search string in Youtube for this event is:
ダイキンオーキッドレディスゴルフトーナメント
It looks like someone has the 2nd Round broadcast cued up here:
But, it's not clear to me when it will start or if it will be live. Three different channels will show Round Two and it looks like the first one will start at 10:30 AM Japan time.
As I scan the early pictures and scoreboard, there are a lot of names and faces that don't look familiar to me...every tour has turnover, but I think this one had more than normal this season.
Two of the newcomers got their butts handed to them on Thursday, SW Bae (76) and Solar Lee (77)...neither has picked up any ground early Friday...I think the top-50 plus ties make the cut, which is currently -2.

The broadcast just started...I think it will focus on holes 16 thru 18...Higa just made a par putt at 16 and leads at -5

The broadcast will run until at least 10:30 PM EST...they just showed Chie Arimura hole out from the fairway for a birdie at the par-4 17th...and I think Lampshade Herden is looping for Sakura Yokomine. BML just teed off at the par-5 18th and is Even.

Aside from the "regular" broadcast schedule I posted earlier for Rounds 3 & 4, there will also be 1st Hole coverage (Japan time):
Sat. - 8:50 AM thru 11:15 AM Sun. - 8:00 AM thru 10:15 AM
Maybe this will be on Youtube...don't forget that Japan goes from 14 hours ahead of NYC to 13 hours this Sunday.
RANK PLAYER SCORE TODAY 1R 2R 3R 4R TOTAL 1 Mamiko Higa -8 -6 70 66 136 2 Sakura Koiwai -6 -5 71 67 138 3 Erina Hara -4 -3 71 69 140 4T Rei Matsuda -3 0 69 72 141 4T Jiyai Shin -3 -2 71 70 141 4T Sun-Ju Ahn -3 -2 71 70 141 4T Asuka Kashiwabara -3 -4 73 68 141 8T Erika Kikuchi -2 0 70 72 142 8T Hana Wakimoto -2 -2 72 70 142 8T Mami Fukuda -2 -5 75 67 142 8T Saki Nagamine -2 -1 71 71 142
The cut of +2 will put 54 players in the money...Na Neul Kim and Karis Davidson are NOT among them.
Mamiko Higa finished with a hole-out eagle at the par-4 9th hole
Momoka Miura (MC)
Megumi Kido (MC) and Rumi Yoshiba (+1)
Bo Mee Lee (-1) ... is last year's nightmare behind her?
Lamphshade & Yokomine (-1) and Kotone Hori had a 72 which is encouraging, but she's going home early
Ah Reum Hwang (E)
Shiho Oyama (+1) ...with Yamaha gone, I don't know who she's repping with that star on her visor ... still with Kappa apparel, so maybe they have the visor too.
Sakura Koiwai (27 of 28 fairways) is so overripe for her first victory
*********
My observation on "new faces" is backed up by an article I just read via Google mush. The average age of the "seeded" players on the JLPGA this season is 26.4, which is a record low.
