“After the KPMG it was evident to me that May (Ariya) wanted to go in a different direction,” Gilchrist wrote in a text message in response to a GolfChannel.com query. “This decision put Mo in a tough position.
The only American in the top ten is....Mina Harigae!? I heard on a broadcast a couple of tournaments ago, that Mina agreed with her caddie to let him do more of the prep work - to frequent the course less. It seems to have done well for her so far. She missed the cut in five of her first six tournaments. Since she's missed only one cut and finished in the top 20 three times.
mina harigae has the distinction of being the only japanese-american on the lpga tour. she was born and raised in monterey calif, pebble beach country. currently she is playing very consistent and has a stroke ave of 71.43 for this year. i have been waiting for her to win a tournament someday.....
Was great to follow So Yeon's exploits online; too bad she blew up on the final two holes, but 69 is still decent and keeps her in the hunt.
Minjee obviously had the strongest first day, but Sung Hyun got out to an ominous start for the rest of the field. Mi Hyang Lee is one to watch if she parlays her Scottish Open success into something this week.
Also happy that Inky started with a 2 under. Her putting looked good. Hyejin also off to a good start.
Inbee probably should have played last week to knock some of the rust off.
It wasn't a terrible day for In Gee, but two late bogies really knocked her for a loop. Jin Young seems to be playing worse in Majors than regular events this year.
The Brooke Henderson Show just started at the 1st hole...maybe I won't see MHL after all.
Is the 5-minute search rule ever enforced? Mamiko Higa and an army of people took way more than that to search for her ball in a garbage area off the 17th fairway...a cart just took her away so I guess she'll hit another one. Her 4th shot just went into a greenside bunker...this course is too tough to allow anyone to run away and hide from everyone else...Higa is learning that and Minjee learned it earlier.
It would be interesting to see Teresa Lu win...then she can reject renewing her LPGA card for a second time.
