FIVE THINGS TO KNOW FROM ROUND ONE OF THE SHOPRITE LPGA CLASSIC www.lpga.com/news/2018-five-things-rd1-shoprite-lpga-classicYang battles back from injury Amy Yang is a three-time winner on the LPGA Tour, so she knows what it takes to beat the best in the world any given week. What she’s still working on, however, is recovering from a recent injury that’s limited her to just two events in the last three months. However, Yang has put that injury struggle behind her. She shot a 4-under-par 67 Friday at the Shoprite LPGA Classic and sits just one shot back of the lead. “It was pretty windy out there today, but shots were very solid out there,” she said. “I gave myself a lot of good chances and my putting was also good.” Yang made just one bogey on Friday and had five birdies. It was her lowest round since the third round of the Bank of Hope Founders Cup in mid-March. Yang got off to a great start at the beginning of the season, with four straight top-15 finishes including a tie for third at the first event of the year, the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic. But she’s been battling an arm injury since April, she said, which has limited her practice time. “It's recovering really fast,” she said. “I don't feel much right now. I just keep massaging it and limit how many balls I hit a day. I'm doing good.

Laura Diaz?! Jimin Kang!?!?!? Moira Dunn???!!!!!! ??!!!!!!!! Jane Park posted on Twitter photos of her as a member of the 2004 Curtis Cup. This tournament is being played in 2004! Anna Nordqvist sure loves this course. I like the fans in the t-shirts by the 17th green.

As MHL's group prepared to tee off at the par-3 11th, the lady marshal raised her QUIET paddle and hit me under the chin with the edge of it...no damage was done, it's just corrugated cardboard...but, that may have been a signal for the train wreck that occurred afterward...I'll share the gory details later.
I witnessed some DIRT at the end of Friday...it was a downer, but I'll dish it out later.
*******
I watched the first four tee shots of Lisa Maguire at #10 thru #13 during Thursday's pro-am...I know it's not a statistically valid sample, but she has NO chance on this tour. I also saw Leona Maguire's drive at #18 later in the day. Think of it this way:
Leona
Lisa

Round 1 Great start from In Gee. This is the kind of course she can play well at, provided the wind doesn't get too severe. Looking forward to seeing her on the broadcast tomorrow. So Amy has been injured? Explains a lot about her situation lately. LPGA lists Jimin Kang as American. That's a new development if so. Inky looked sharp on the broadcast. She's just two back and this is a course that really suits her game. Sung Hyun also quietly at 2 under. Not a place I expect much from her, but given her up and down season, a great weekend wouldn't surprise me in the least. Bit bummed Jin Young Ko didn't do more, although I liked her outfit at least. They listed JE Lee as Jeong Eun Lee (5) on the leaderboard! Harang Lee, Korean Spaniard, had a holeout from the fairway and even made the broadcast. She has some work to do to make the cut, though; she's +2 (she wasn't wearing this when she played:) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bi0avyNAqBx More In Gee Chella Choi Ouch! Good start for Jenny Shin too HYP sighting! More Jin Young Ko

Jin Young got off to a slow start on the front side one bogey... plus two. However she made birdie on nine, and birdied seventeen and eighteen. Finishing minus one put her inside the projected cut line which is even par.
Sung Hyun is in a funk right now. Five bogeys and two birdies, put her at +1. Looks like she will miss her second cut in a row. She hit eleven of fourteen fairways, but only ten greens. That's unusual for her to miss greens from the fairway.
