Link to the articleTwo nailbiting finals highlighted the 2015 WA Amateur Championships at Hartfield Country Club, as Min Woo Lee of Royal Fremantle and Hayley Bettencourt of Mandurah prevailed to win their state titles. Min Woo Lee needed two extra holes to dispatch of Kiran Day of Cottesloe, who lead throughout but succumbed to a superb Lee comeback. Facing a 4 hole deficit with five to play, Lee won three straight holes to get within one with two holes to play. Lee then won the 36th hole to tie the match with a birdie. While Lee’s win is a testament to his nerves of steel, Day played incredible golf throughout the event, including a defeat of Number 1 seed Curtis Luck in the Semi-Final. 16 year old Min Woo Lee showed maturity beyond his age in his big comeback against Day. “I was just saying to play my best. Kiran was playing so well so I knew I had to dig deep and try to pull through.” “I just stuck to my game play and it just turned out well for me.” Lee was ranked 331 in the World pre tournament, and he is hoping this win can move him towards the top-200 so he can earn some starts in America and the UK during their summer. “I hope it gives me a good boost, I’ve been looking at my world ranking and I’m not sure what it will do from here but I hope it helps!” “I’d love to get the opportunity [to play in the America] so we’ll have to see what happens.” It might be the first time the Lee name has been engraved on the Men’s Amateur Trophy, but he now joins his sister, Minjee Lee, who has three state Amateur wins to her name. While Lee did have the support of his sister, her well wishes came slightly too late. “She just told me to stay patient and to think of one shot at a time, but this was when I was playing so I didn’t get it until I had finished.” “But it was still good to know that my sister cares of me!” |

Happyfan Thx for the info. So why are you all jazzed about Minjee Lee? (thx for the Oz Golf Digest pic of Minjee in another thread)....but yet you don't have the same enthusiasm for the other FAKE Korean who happens to be Rolex Ranked #1. Uh, it was Fanofseri who called them fake Koreans, not me! They wouldn't be on seoulsisters.com if I didn't think they counted as Sisters! Who isn't selective about which player he/she roots for? That's a strange criticism. Everyone has his/her faves, and I'm no different. You yourself talk often about how you don't care for NYC or Inbee. Different strokes. For the record, I like plenty of Sisters not born in Korea. Not a fan of Ko for the reasons I stated a few weeks ago, but I don't hate her either (I know nothing about her mom and care even less). Michelle Wie I genuinely don't like, but Danielle Kang, Jennifer Song, Su Oh and Minjee Lee I like a lot. Alison Lee I'm not sure yet. I hope that's clear? |

Make it interesting! Happy: You just gotta sit back and enjoy the brilliance.....and she's only 17. 26 LPGA events and counting.....under par rds....29 if you count the NZ Open. If your daughter golfed like Lydia....I doubt you'd say she's too perfect....you'd be crying tears of joy from her accomplishments. Ko is Kool!!! If you like drama.....you should be more of a Solheim fanboy...talk about Yank drama....K Drama has nothing on the US.  |

Seems like one Lee is shining while the other is not.
Alison has been golfing fairly well lately...while Minjee has been flat.

Interesting little tidbit related to Minjee. Roy Clarke, who caddied for Se Ri all of last year, told me last week he left her to work with Minjee. He may have been frustrated with all of Pak's injury woes and limited schedule, but sure is ironic she finished with a top ten and Minjee MC'd this past weekend at the Kia. Heh. |
