My spectating strategy this year was to camp out at several places instead of following several groups for several holes.
After attempting to win a Kia Sorento with a hole-in-one at the Swing Challenge Simulator tent, I went to the grandstands at the 1st tee to watch Lexi and So Yeon tee off. Stayed there for about an hour and left after Brooke and Minjee teed off.
I then went to the bleachers near the 9th green just in time to see Sei Young and Megan Khang putt out. The rough was very thick again this year. Marina Alex was in the left rough and hit a shot that probably got no higher 10 feet off the ground, but managed to roll down the hill onto the green and two-putt for par. After Marina and Aditi Ashok putted out, I decided to head out to the 14th green. On the way there I ended following Marina and Aditi on 10 and 11.
I stopped at the 16th to watch Lexi and So Yeon tee off. While they were waiting for the green to clear, they were joking and laughing about different ways to throw grass up in the air to determine wind direction. If there was any tension between them going back to last year's ANA, I didn't see it.
By the time I got to the 14th, there was Marina and Aditi again. Even though I hadn't intended to, I ended up watching them for four holes. I stayed behind the 14th green for about an hour and a half so I could see some players I hadn't seen yet. After Michelle and Danielle came through, I left for the 16th hole.
To the right of the 16th fairway, there is a nice spot near the landing area where you can see the tee shots land and roll onto or near the green. Bronte Law nearly got a hole-in-one/albatross. Her tee shot rolled just past the pin to about 4 or 5 feet and she made the eagle putt.
I stayed at 16th to watch the final groups come through and then headed out to 18 for the finale.
This was my fourth straight year going to the KIA Classic and I would've been very upset if I had to endure another Crusty Grrr victory. Congrats to Eun-hee Ji. I wished I could've seen that ace.
One last note, the crowds this year seemed very small.
