This week's KLPGA event will take place over three days starting 9/26. Special guest star Na Yeon Choi will be teeing it up, trying to put a dent in the Class of 1995's recent brilliance. Six events have been won this year by teens Hyo Joo Kim and Kyu Jung Baek, with Jin Young Ko and In Gee Chun also capturing an event a piece.

Wow, interesting - Se Ri isn't playing in her sponsor's event? I would think she wouldn't miss this, especially when she won it in 2012. I figured she was going to be in Korea until her Invitational at the beginning of October (she isn't playing in China next week) so this would be a great way to warm up. I hope it isn't injury-related. :/
Btw, thanks for the interview link for Se Ri, HF - too bad we can't watch it here in the states! I saw she fielded more questions again about her retirement...really curious to see what she said. And also if she said anything about exactly what injury is bothering her this year.

Yeah, i was thinking the same thing. Why not play? She is still wearing the KDB hat, but i wonder if that deal ends at the end of 2014. And who is getting "invited" to the Se Ri Invitational ?? If we are honest with ourselves, it seems like Se Ri has entered some type of at least semi retirement. She'll end up playing less than half the schedule this year, plus missing a Major.

The last picture above of So Yeon Park....she's the pro I played 3 holes with at a muni in the winter of 2012. We played the tips...yellow tees that are seldom used by golfers. She went par, birdie, par until she decided to fall back to practice. She was staying with her uncle here in Vancouver to practice for the winter...golf is cheaper here....her uncle played with us too.
She must have Monday qualified for the 2012 CWO here...she did pretty well. She also played in the women's Canadian tour stop here in Richmond, BC in May 2012. Her uncle remembered me and we chatted at both events.
She was sporting a flat brim hat then and still does...lol.

Round 2: Chun Takes One Shot Lead; NYC LurkingIn the morning of day two, the initiative was seized by Ji Hyun Kim. At one point, Kim had a four shot lead with just a few holes to play. But she bogied her final two holes and wound up at 8 under. In the afternoon it was Na Yeon Choi who made her move. By the 11th hole, Choi had moved to 9 under and had already six birdies against a lone bogey. But from 12 on, Choi had three bogies and one birdie and wound up at 7 under. Eventually, In Gee Chun finished the day in the lead. Hovering near the top most of her round, she finished with birdies on 14 and 16 to move to 9 under and a one shot lead over Kim. A gaggle of stars are tied for third at 7 under, including NYC, Hyo Joo Kim, Sei Young Kim, Min Sun Kim and Ha Neul Kim. Sei Young Hyo Joo Ha Neul Ha Na Jang is alone at 6 under. Kyu Jung Baek shot a 73 and is 7 back. One more day! Scores: 1. In Gee Chun 69 -9 2. Ji Hyun Kim 2 70 -8 3. I'd like to see Sky win...I'm not feeling it for NYC....I'd like to see Hyo Joo win. The course is playing tough based on the scores....I predict the winner will shoot 68 on Sunday...maybe a playoff.

Round 3: Playoff Between Two Big KLPGA StarsThe third round of this event quickly turned into a mano-a-mano between two of the KLPGA's most popular players: Ha Neul Kim and In Gee Chun. By the turn, they had a three shot lead over the rest of the field, and though some other players occasionally made noise, in the end it would go all the way to a playoff between those two. Ha Neul was playing in the second to last group, In Gee the last group. On 15, In Gee had a two shot lead over Kim, but put her approach into the greenside bunker. She then hit a terrible out which left her twenty feet past the hole for par. She averted disaster with a brilliant par save to stay at 12 under. Then Kim made her move. She drained a long birdie on 16 and followed that with a slightly shorter but still lengthy birdie on 17. Chun stalled and the two were now tied. In Gee had a few more chances to make birdie, but just missed on 17 and 18, and we had a playoff! The playoff was a roller coaster ride to be sure. In Gee hit a bad drive and her approach missed the green. Meanwhile, Ha Neul hit a perfect drive and hit a dead straight approach right at the flag. But it was a bit short, and, agonizingly, bounced back and rolled into the lake in front of the green. Disaster! Chun then chipped to three feet, forcing Ha Neul to get up and down for bogey to have any chance. She did not, Chun made the par, and In Gee's second win of 2014 was hers! While In Gee was drenched by her friends, Na Yeon Choi consoled a bitterly weeping Ha Neul by the side of the green. It was a sad near miss for the wonderful star Ha Neul Kim, but a great week for In Gee Chun, who led or co-led pretty much the entire week. Congratulations to her on her second win of the year and third of her career! Scores: 1. In Gee Chun 69 -12 (won in one hole playoff) 2. Ha Neul Kim 67 -12 3. Ji Hyun Kim 2 70 -10 4. Min Young Lee 2 69 -8 5. Hye Rim Kim 66 -7 - Jung Min Lee 68 -7 - Hyo Joo Kim 72 -7 Notables: 8. Na Yeon Choi 73 -6- Sei Young Kim 73 -6 10. Yoon Kyung Heo 71 -5 - Ji Hee Kim 72 -5 13. Ha Na Jang 74 -4 - Ran Hong 71 -4 17. Seung Hyun Lee 76 -3 - Min Sun Kim 5 (R) 76 -4 19. Je Yoon Yang 72 -2 - Ji Hyun Oh (R) 71 -2 27. Chae Young Yoon 72 Even - Kyeong Bae 76 EVen 36. Jin Young Ko (R) 74 +1 - Kyu Jung Baek (R) 75 +1 - Char Young Kim 75 +1 45. Da Na Kim 76 +2 - Hye Youn Kim 77 +2

This one was an instant classic; lots of amazing shots, rescues from bad shots, and unexpected birdies to keep it close til the end. To be honest, it probably shouldn't have been a playoff. Chun just barely missed her birdie tries on the final two holes. These are my two favorite golfers on the KLPGA right now, so either way I was going to be happy, but I was rooting more for Chun this time because I felt like she had been leading for the entire week and it would have been a drag for her to lose after all that. Still, I wish she had won it rather than Ha Neul handing it to her with that unfortunate bad break. Some nice person uploaded the highlights for your enjoyment. Here are the video highlights of the final round!Ha Neul has now had five runner-up finishes since her last win. No wonder she got so upset. But that does show she is playing really well, so hopefully the next time will be the charm (and there's really one event I want her to win above all others: the Ha Na Bank. If she won't go to LPGA Q-School, I want her to get her tour card the hard way! Anything but lose her to Japan, where we will probably seldom see her again in the West). Another interesting fact: with her win, In Gee is the sixth player to achieve multiple wins this season. Last year, only three players - Ha Na Jang, Sei Young Kim and Bo Kyung Kim - managed that. This year, we have Hyo Joo Kim (3 wins), Kyu Jung Baek (3 wins), In Gee, Sei Young, Ha Na and Jung Min Lee (all with two wins each).
