Leave So Yeon alone. She has won major twice, and reached number one. That she has the same number of wins as Jessica is mostly a credit to Jessica--that's a lot of wins in that many starts--not a mark against So Yeon. If we are going to pick on somebody for contending and not winning enough, let us look no further than the Moriyas and Gerinas of the world. IMO. Hell, throw Michelle Wie under the bus before So Yeon. So Yeon seems to have reached or approached the ceiling of her potential and that is more than most players can say. Thank You. She has also come in second against tournament records posted. Case in point CME Group against Hull, Thailand against Amy Yang and others. It may not be that she played poorly, the other player may have just played great.

did you mean occasionally? I meant they shorten whenever the name allows for it. They only do it with familiar Western names obviously. I don't recall hearing Kat Kirk, Angie Stanford, Cris Kerr, Meg Khang, Nell Korda, Brit Lang, Brit Lincicome, or Liz Salas. Jessica seems to be the name that gets shortened consistently.

Did you catch the announcer saying Mi-Chell Wie?

I mention So Yeon because she has been in the Rolex Top 10 for quite some time. Looking at the other players in the Top 10 with at least 3 seasons: Shanshan (9 wins), Lexi (9 wins), Anna (8 wins), In-Kyung (7 wins), Ariya (7 wins), and Cristie (20 wins) all have more wins than her. Gerina and Moriya haven't cracked the top 10 as far as I recall. Yes, I think pretty much everyone agrees that Michelle has been an underachiever.

It would be interesting to see the final round scoring average for SYR and Jess when they were leading, or within 4 shots of the lead going into the final round. For several seasons it was no surprise than So Yeon played poorly on Sundays when in contention. She was certainly not the only player on tour to suffer from Sundayitis. Gerina comes to mind. Other than the Australian announcers, who calls her that? Drives me nuts, Jess Korda this... Jess Korda that... If they're gonna do that, they should also say "Nell Korda, Cris Kerr, Brit Lincicome, So Ryu, Lex Thompson, Shan Feng, etc..." Jess is an accepted shortening of the name Jessica. I don't believe Brit, So, or Shan are common shortened versions of their respective names. Nell? OK. Cris? OK.

Last night I heard Johnny Weir call Terry Gannon "Terence."

Tom Kite and Ben Crenshaw. Who's who in this analogy? Both had 19 wins on the PGA Tour but Kite had 209 top tens to Crenshaw's 144, so SYR could be Kite. However, Crenshaw had a 0-8 record in play-offs so he easily could've had 4 or 5 more wins. So Yeon is Kite. A top 10 machine. In 1981 he had something like 18 top 10s in 25 tournaments with one win - Doral I think. She has some catching up to do in the win category:)

But back to the point... I think the Aussie announcers are the only ones who call Jessica Korda, Jess.

I give the Aussie announcers a pass. They are very enthusiastic about the game and I appreciate that. Just before Jin Young Ko teed off in the Oz Open final round, the normally lighthearted announcer got serious for a moment. He was like, "This is not just another tour event. This means something to us. This is.... our national open." I got the chills!

So if I'm reading this correctly....you're saying SYR's new nickname is CHOKER....or as the Aussie's like to abbreviate....CHOKE.

I can't recall the last time So Yeon had a 54 hole lead and lost the tournament. More often than not she's a few strokes off the lead after 54 holes, and plays meh on Sunday. The same could be said for Amy at the majors. Whether it's a lack of that "killer" instinct, or simply putting too much pressure on herself, she didn't gets the wins for several season. By comparison, how many times did Inbee come from behind for the win? She's like a silent assassin. She stalks her prey, and when they stumble, bam. She grabs the trophy.
