BIG thanks to HappyFan for considering SYK as a GREAT player. However, as I said before, "I've no doudt that SYK will NOT win a Major in the near future lest ...". I tried to justify my opinion on SYK by skimming thru the leaderboards of all 2015-17 list of winners + some external news. (During the process, I happened to notice the performance of some names described in the 2nd part)
For SYK :
1) In the beginning, she had the unwavering determination of making the Olympics. (Now, it's too early for such motivation.) Not being expected to succeed right qway, BA had played pressure free mindset (playing finger piano while waiting on the greens), combined with her intrinsic mental toughness (chaser vs learder). And her uncanny ability to make birdies (vs Inbee and lowest score -27 -- only Annika + herself in the LPGA history)
Lately, it's NOT pressure-free anymore. More and more body-english during T-shots and quite a lot of facial displeasure during puttings. She has been cutting down the number of "birdies become bogies". Her current trend is to STUMBLE MORE after a single bogey. I was frustrated so much I coined a nickname for her: "Ms Bang Bang" (with each bang corresponding to 1 bogey. Originally it's Bam Bam, but discarded for ambiguity). Theoretically, she unarguably should be the Aberdeen winner. On the other hand, if we'd replace IK with SYK, I think Jodi'd be the WBO winner. (A side point : I LMAO'ed every single time when I read the surname BA. Whoever invented this is for sure attained the intended description both litterally and figuratively (her gait). The Island Queen could probably win 1 more event during the Asian Swing but not the EVIAN.)
2) Being just a new LPGA watcher, I certainly know diddly-squat about golf technique, I'll be tiptoeing around the following bullets that are just pure SPECULATIONS based only on the LPGA Stats section. I've nothing personal against all the names listed below. And more importantly, I LUV ALL WINNERS + RunnerUps (Just because Koreans won more frequently). Nuff said.
2.1) Korean golfers' Dominance. This most likely can be attributed to the DEPTH of the Koreans. Since they're all-terrain + all weather players, some will perform really well in one type of events, others on another type.
2.2) FADING UNDER PRESSURE. Amy Yang is the prominent candidate in this category. How come she can birdie all 9 back holes? Because there's no more pressure. Same thing with STACEY. How come she usually can make a long birdie but frequently fails a much shorter one ? Because more pressure with the expectation. This category is different from the case of SELF CONFIDENCE which happened after a long streak of no-win performance: STACEY, IGC, SHP and Lydia belong to this class. (Fortunately SHP just steps out of this hole.)
2.3) LACK OF SELF CONFIDENCE. This class consists of Lydia (confidence lost), Gerina, the LOVELY HYP, Chella Choi who played with the belief that there is LITTLE hope of winning.
2.4) SLOW START consists of our Techer's Pet and possibly SYR. Though they sure will stage a comeback in Sunday but most of the time it's NOT ENOUGH BIRDIES.
2.5) NOT ENOUGH BIRDIES Though in contention, this category SOMEHOW didn't score enough. (I didn't jot down their names)
2.6) Lydia is TOAST. I sincerely don't think so. She falls into cat 2.2 and 2.3. Once the pressure-to-win evaporates after the EVIAN Major, she will sure find her 8to9 old-self again and win at least 1 of the remaining events.(18majors. It's a good opportunity for you to return the favor, and the crackpipe as well, to mr3putt.)
