Thanks 18majors. I believe cannlinny is also from Wisconsin and lives there. I recall she likes the course, but I wasn't as impressed. I played there one time and it was kinda tough for me. I played with the pro so I was on the wrong set of tees. My poor play probably influenced my opinion. I know that when the US Am was there, a couple of guys from South OC were in the tournament and didn't care for the place.
Even though it is in the middle of nowhere, it will be a huge success and will look good on tv. It is a shame they can't make the guys play with persimmon and old time golf balls. Then they could play at Milwaukee Country Club, instead.
In Central Wisconsin they built Sand Hills and other courses are on the way. I guess they want the Badger version of Bandon.

Bandon on the ocean...EH...not so much. $280 for a cow pasture is a lot of bucks...ok...maybe not for BIG SHOOTER's like you and SYRfan.

I would be willing to pay $280 for Cypress Point, Augusta, Seminole and Pine Valley. I think Erin Hills is worth playing if the green fees are $80. Until then, I'm happy with the $12 to $14 twilight rate at San Clemente.

After I saw Chambers Bay in 2015...I though we should make a 4 hr Boys road trip to play it. BUT After getting past the emotion and facing reality...it would be a rip off for us. Non Resident ...with tax and exchange rate = $417 Cdn at peak summer rate. Chambers continues to have pathetic greens....the poa anna and fescue experiment has never worked. I still can't believe people play it with goat track greens.

I was blown away by Erin Hills when I walked it during the USAm - probably the first course I've been on that I was thinking whoa, too much course for me. Conditions should be terrific if it stops raining -course has been closed to play since last fall. It's going to be a great venue for fans with endless viewing possibilities (as long as you're ambulatory!). I've read that the USGA thinks they could have 100,000 spectators on the course, but they've capped it at 35,000. The only thing that could be a big problem is the parking/shuttle situation. One shuttle site is 19 miles away and the other is 13 miles, and the access roads are 2 lane country roads. If they can keep the buses rolling it could be ok. fanofseri, were you at Milwaukee Country Club the same time that Steve Trattner (instrumental in getting Erin Hills built) was playing and caddying there? Any lessons from Manuel de l'Torre (?). I've only played tennis there years ago.

I can't remember their names but I think one of the guy's family founded Allis-Chalmers. The caddies were young kids and those old coots were all over them. It was the best conditioned course I've ever played and had a fantastic men's grill. If you saw me play golf, you'd know I never took lessons from Manuel de la Torre. One of the gals I went to school with from from 1st Grade through graduation did and she ended up playing at ASU.
