At least thirteen teams from the Far East and Down Under will send lady amateur threesomes to Zhangjiagang Shuangshan Golf Club (May 7-13), which is on a small island in the Yangtze River about 90 miles NW of downtown Shanghai. Online maps show no bridges, so they must have ferry service. Korea will send Hye Jin Choi, Ga Young Lee, and So Mi Lee. The best-known player on the other teams is Yuka Saso of The Phillipines. The ROK has won 9 times in the last 10 years and 18 times since the tournament started in 1979. Event homepage: www.queensirikitcup.orgClick on the HALL OF LEGENDS box for some vintage pix. A few samples: Great stuff in the GALLERY box, too.

I poked around the China LPGA website to see when they play next. It won't be until June, but they played last week at the same course slated for the Sirikit. Amateur Wenbo Liu became the youngest (16 years, 2 month, 11 days) winner of a CLGPA event...of course, the field was absurdly weak. Nevertheless, Liu's local knowledge should be useful while playing for Team China at the Sirikit.
On another topic, the CLPGA website doesn't show the annual Buick Championship in May or in any other month. It was always co-sponsored by the LET, but it's gone from that schedule, too. Hmmm...I wonder if the SS Feng will have blank space on her cap and bag at the end of the year.

Round One was played on Wednesday, but the event website has no scores yet. The Japan Golf Association says Korea is in first at Even and Japan is in 2nd place at +2. Japan received a confidence boost by beating Korea (by three shots) and Taiwan last month at the Neighbors Trophy Team Championship. Korea's team photo on Tuesday...Cyborg is next to the big guy.

A translated Japanese article seems to indicate that Korea extended its lead in Round Two, as Cyborg shot 67. The news and pix of this event are coming out slowly.

Is there a leaderboard anywhere? The Korean press does not seem to be following this tournament like usual, and the tournament website has nothing I could find.

The official website will probably be the LAST place to upload the scores and pictures. Meanwhile, here are some final scores: Korea -12 China -9 Japan -7 Thailand -3 I think Cyborg(below) won a playoff to determine the low medalist. Hye Jin Choi KOR 73-67-69-209 -7 Wenbo Liu CHN 73-71-65-209 -7 Atthaya Thitikul THA 75-68-68-211 -5
