Welcome to the 2015 season of the Pakpicker!
Your task is simple. You choose the players you believe will finish in the top 12, that’s TWELVE, of the upcoming week’s LPGA tournament. List your choices from 1st through 12th.
Please make it a habit to include family and given names. I can be lenient if you pick “Lewis” and I would assume you meant Stacy versus Amelia. But if you write just “Choi”, I’m not going to try to read your mind to figure out if you meant Chella or Na Yeon.
You are allowed up to three alternates picks beyond the original twelve. This is for cases where I can’t determine which player you are picking, or the player you chose isn’t in the field, or if the player chosen dropped out before the start of the tournament. In these cases, I drop the offending player from your picks, move your subsequent picks up one place and bring in your first alternate up to pick no. 12.
Be aware of the difference between Did Not Start and Withdrawal. If one of your picks never makes it to her first tee, your first alternate comes into play but once she tees off, she’s in play even if she withdraws after one hole.
Every Pakpicker carries a deadline in which you may post your picks. Please, folks, try to meet this deadline. We do this for fun. The rewards are only virtual. I make it a habit to set the deadline at 7AM tournament time on the day of the first round. That does well for the vast majority of the tournaments. Pairings typically aren’t set when the week’s Pakpicker first gets posted. If it’s a full-field tournament in the middle of the North American summer and the first group goes out at 6:50 AM, I won’t disqualify a contestant for submitting at 6:59.
Scoring is made up of two parts. The first is based on where your pick finishes in the top 12. If she finished first, you get nine (9) points regardless of where you picked her. 0.75 point is deducted for each place after first with 0.75 point for 12th place. The second part is the player’s finish in the top 12 versus your pick of her in the top 12. Picking the exact placement earns six (6) points with 0.5 point deducted for each place off.
For example, if you picked Jessica Korda to finish 7th and she actually finished 4th. You earn 11.25 points (6.75 for finish plus 4.50 for being 3 places off). If you pick Julieta Grenada 2nd and she finishes in a tie for 12th, you get 1.75 points (0.75 finish plus 1.00 for being 10 places off). If you pick Lydia Ko to win and she does, that’s 15 points (9.00 plus 6.00) the most you can earn on any one pick in Pakpicker.
Any picks of players who finish outside the top 12, withdraw, fail to make the cut or are disqualified earn zero points.
First up is the debut of the Coates Golf Championship taking place from 1/28/15 to 1/31/15, a Wednesday start and Saturday finish because of Super Bowl Sunday.
Please submit your picks by Wednesday, January 28, 2015 7AM EST, 4AM PST. Good luck! Let's have a great and entertaining 2015!
